Start with 9gr of trail boss and a 170gr bullet. Shoot across chrono and adjust powder charge down untill you get subsonic speeds. You always want to start a bit higher and work down to subsonic so you don't stick a bullet. 9 grs of TB should get you about 1250 fps to start. Good luck
12 grains of Unique is a great load with either the Speer 100 grain 'Plinkers' or a 110 Gr JRN or plated bullet.
With the 100 grain plinker they chrono at about 1700 FPS and are very accurate.

I was thinking of "the load" too. You can always buy a cartridge adapter for the .30-30 to shoot .32 ACP, .and I think, .32 Federal. That way you won't get your ammo confused.
Can't think of the guy's name off hand, took over from Harry Owen, a friend of mine, when Harry died, lives in Alaska and has ads in Backwoodsman and other mags. Good guy, I have bought quite a few adapters from him and never had a problem.
