Seems those of us in the NW will soon have a new intruder to deal with Rantz: Washington's Asian 'murder hornets' will probably kill us all

This got me to thinking, it seems to me that possibly 22 shotshell might be an appropriate type of ammo for 2" long hornets.

Would it be effective on big bugs at under 30' distance? (I'm thinking if I see one on my 2 story house)
How much damage to the exterior wood would you think might occur?
Would I be better with some other type of ammo?
Trying to determine what would be best against 2" murder bugs that also won't destroy (some damage is OK, the wood exterior has a "rough" look) my house and has limited down-range danger to life and property.

I'd be using a 16" rifle BTW.

I thought about an air rifle, but I like the shotshell aspect of the 22

"Or in the case of spiders you just get close to it and shot gun it's soft body."

Why would you want to kill spiders? All most of them want to do is hang out and eat creatures you find annoying.

How about shot shells loaded with sea salt (not rock salt, think smaller projectile) and a lighter powder load. The salt shot would only be dangerous/deadly to people and property at very close range, and the salt would be washed away with the rain or swept up with the corpses after the fact. Or try peppercorns if the salt is too crumbly. Or maybe even the plastic airsoft BB's - load up a 3" magnum shell with a light to medium power load.

I do think, however that flame throwers and melee weapons would not only be more gratifying, but less likely to get the cops to show up and cough on you and touch you with their dirty, COVID covered hands and haul you off to a dungeon or to the chopping block at the hands of Queen Kate or King Jay.

Is The Boring Company still making giant BBQ lighters, er, flame throwers? Those would be good.

I've read only a few posts on this thread, that said: Are they edible?

If so, how ya clean an cook em?

Remove head and stinger or leave em on for the crunch factor?

You guys crack me up!
All you need is a good Super Soaker and Soap and Water and some practice to get your aim down!
I have killed thousands of Bee's and other flying insects using this set up and it flat out works and won't get the cops called on ya, or the neighbors upset!
The Soap and Water instantly knocks them down and the soap part basically suffocates them by blocking their ability to breath! Most professional bee killers use soap and water to deal with infestations and nests! Same trick for hanging nests, soak the nest good, knock it down and put it in a bucket with a lid, fill it with water and walk away! :s0155:

Another idea, Nerf guns can be pretty dang powerful, and some can be upgraded even further ( I have little ones here) and I bet they could modded to shoot other things besides the soft stuff! Wink Wink!

I used to have some of the crimped nose 22LR Super X birdshot. It will kill birds at 30 yards. The wasp would be nothing but dust.

Help! Help! The murder hornets are coming! I gotta go buy a new gun at once so the murder hornets don't get me!

I also need another new gun to protect myself from corona-virus induced goby gobies. Goby gobies, in case you don't know, are the monsters that hid in dark corners of the basement or under beds at night when I was a little kid. They're the worst monsters ever. I've never heard of corona virus inducing the goby gobie state. However until recently I never heard of anything but corona beer. You can't be too safe, I figure.

And how better to cheer things up than by buying two new guns?

At 10 or 11 PM take a teaspoon of flea powder and pour it into the hornet/yellowjacket hole in the ground followed by a shovelfull of dirt on top to lock them in and you are done.
