All original factory condition except for a glass bedding job by a riflesmith. Blue steel, hardwood stock. Detachable steel, 3 shot magazine, 22 inch barrel. Although it had iron sights, they are no longer on the rifle and are gone. This is the rifle with the 9 rear lug bolt action that made a reputation for itself as an accurate, but somewhat homely rifle. This one is no exception, as it has grouped Remington factory 80 grain bullets into a 3/8 inch group at 100 yards. It also groups the Barnes 80 grain TTSX big game bullet into an inch at the same distance. 100 grain Remington Cor lokt big game bullets run around 1 1/2 inches or sonat 100 yards. This rifle was ourchased at the Grant Boys gun shop in Newport Beach/ Costa Mesa store in 1976. It had a half box of ammo run through it and it was stored away until 2002 for its one and only trip into the field for a desert deer hunt. The rifle has been fired at the rifle range a half dozen times since then and has probably had 150-200 rounds through it. Included with the rifle are the original Weaver two piece bases. There are also a new set of Warne all-steel vertical split rings. Warne are made here in Oregon and are renowned for their strength and precision manufacturing. Mounted on the rifle is a like new, Leupold Gold Ring, Vari X III 3.5x10 power, 1 inch diameter tube and a 40mm objective. The scope was purchased a year ago but only mounted on the rifle in the past month. It has never been in the field. The photographs best show the overall condition of the rifle and there is very little scratching or blue wear or any rusting due to its one time only field excursion. The barrel is bright and clean and has been well cared for. There are sling studs and swivels installed. This rifle and scope combination is a great setup for deer, pronghorn, black bear and larger game with a well placed shot and the correct bullet. This rifle is also a good varmint getter, as it appears to do its best accuracy work with 80-90 grain bullets. With the Hornady Superperformance 75 grain V-Max loading, this load is stated to shoot over 3,500 fps. Most looking at this ad will already be familiar with the Model 788 and its characteristics. It's rather thick barrel and solid receiver has long been attributed to it's amazing accuracy for a hunting rifle. It's rather thick barrel and solid receiver has long been attributed to it's amazing accuracy for a hunting rifle. There are a number of people who collect model 788's and put a custom trigger and barrel on them and turn them into specialty rifles.
The functioning and feeding and firing has been flawless. The rifle comes as is and the factory box was ditched decades ago. All factory paperwork, box, and Leupold Factory protective neoprene cover will come with the firearm.

$350.00 and that includes the Warne Steel Rings, that are made here in Oregon. I believe that I paid around 75 dollars for them a couple of years ago. Thanks for the inquiry.

did the gunsmith do more than glass bedding? that recoil lug looks 2x to 3x the thickness of normal one. do you recall the gunsmith mentioning anything about replacing the recoil lug for any reason? or is that just camera effects? thanks.

Did not replace nor touch recoil lug. All is factory. Just some bedding compound as needed.
