1000 Yards in Central Oregon?

Anyone know a good, safe spot on public land in central Oregon where a person can shoot to 1000 yards? My preference would be somewhere not too far from where 58 and 97 intersect.

One big problem is central Oregon is so populated with outdoors people you have to be extremely careful some hikers are cutting between you.

I am in Redmond and I would love to a nice SAFE long range spot to shoot! I have a couple bolt action target rifles in .398 and 250-3000 that I haven't had out in years due to lack of a long range shooting spot. I mtn bike and hike and you are right, it is hard to find a spot for long range shooting without running into other recreationalists.

I will have to check out Alvord desert. Is it legal to shoot there?

Very true especially close to Bend and Sunriver areas but get South of LaPine/Crescent and it thins out. Ditto however on the forestation in the 97/58 area but a little looking might reveal some isolated areas with this kind of range. I have see what appeared to be some possibilities while Jeeping/tramping in this area but not too many.
