rolling block
A rolling block action is a form of firearm action where the sealing of the breech is done with a specially shaped breechblock able to rotate on a pin. The breechblock is shaped like a section of a circle.
The breechblock is locked into place by the hammer, thus preventing the cartridge from moving backwards at the moment of firing. By cocking the hammer, the breechblock can be rotated freely to reload the weapon.
I have this old Remington 1902 Rolling Block rifle for sale. All original EXCEPT the old steel buttplate was removed and replaced with a rubber butt pad. Its a 7mm Mauser I think which is 7x57mm. Seeing as it was made after 1898 we have to go an FFL dealer to transfer it. My preferred FFL dealer...
New York State - Remington .50-70 Rolling Block - produced from 1872 to 1873.

The Springfield Trapdoor.
The Remington Rolling Block.

This is unusual, and very, very cute. There is no maker stamped on the gun. Far as I can determine from the proof marks, it is Spanish. Small and light, it is a pleasure to hold. The bore is excellent; it was obviously shot very little. The rear sight is an abomination. Of further...
Bought this from a friend ~40 years ago. I don't know who did the work. Fitted with a very heavy (~ 1 1/8" at the muzzle) barrel. Reblued, evidently loosing the serial number in the process. Need I mention recoil is not an issue? Price is without the Leupold Vari-X II 2-7 scope. Add $250...
