I think there's another thread that the state of Washington close public lands for target shooting due to fire danger

You won't be able to get there now, or for the rest of the winter, because of the fire this summer. All the roads are closed due to hazards and work being done. Might want to look elsewhere.
And yes, we all appreciate fellow shooters cleaning up as we go. Thanks!
No it doesn't at this time. Haven't had time to do that yet. May be able to get to it since I'll have an extra day off this week. Thanks Cogs, TNL website doesn't indicate closed at this though?!

Thanks for the update. Do you happen to know if the small pit off of 1200 is accessible?
Has anyone been out to Jackson Pit lately? Wondering what conditions are like right now.
I think it's still full of rock crushing equipment. It was last month, but haven't seen it since. It looked like a big project, so they might be there a while. I'm meeting with DNR tomorrow evening and will see if I can get an update.

Thanks for the pics Bob. It's always good to see what an area looks like before heading out.Drove roads 1500 and 1600 on Wednesday, checking conditions at regularly used shooting sites. All the No Shooting signs at Jackson Pit are gone!
Went back today with the three grandsons and we had the whole place to ourselves from 9 am to 3:15 pm. There was a homeless guy was there this morning, sleeping in his truck, but he left as soon as we started setting up. Filled a 32 gallon trash can with shotgun hulls, empty cartridge boxes, soda and beer cans, etc. Could have filled 3-4 more.

Addition, for @Cogs
- someone dumped yard debris right behind the first line of boulders

picked debris at the top of the road, where the pit begins

From the front of the table to the steel targets was a laser-ranged 100 yards. The collapsible garbage container was about 3/4 full when we left.

Most of the larger junk was to the right, against the north wall. Still not as bad as on some previous visits.

Remember, those pics are from 2020. I was there once last year and picked up lots of trash, so don't know what it looks like now. Paper, cardboard and wood debris doesn't bother me like broken glass and electronic devices. Thanks for the pics Bob. It's always good to see what an area looks like before heading out.
It has been closed for quite some time, due to rock crushing activity in the pit. They even installed a gate, instead of the boulders and logs. In April, this year, the gate was open, and no other barriers, so I went up to see. Equipment was gone and it seems their operation is done. I'm not sure if they came back and closed the gate, since then, but I would think it is now accessible and may be able to shoot there. If not, the next one up the road, around the corners, is always open.Remember, those pics are from 2020. I was there once last year and picked up lots of trash, so don't know what it looks like now. It's a good pit for shooting, as long as everyone acts safely. I've been there with my kids and grandkids shooting E-W while others were shooting the dirt slope on the north side. We agreed on a firing line, notifying the other group for cease fire/target inspection.
At one time there was a trail used by dirt bikes on the backslope of the west wall; don't know if that trail is still active or not. I still listen for dirt bikes, but 9 times out of 10 they're going by on the gravel road.
