Cool 1911…
Supposedly this is an early Colt frame, with an Ithaca slide, before their tooling was complete.
Neat piece of history.

I just did some cursory digging around. And from what I understand there were some Colt 1911 WW1 receivers sent to Ithaca to help facilitate their 1911 program. These guns were built into 1911A1 configuration guns. When completed these were Ithaca guns. If whabamp is correct then supposedly this could be one of those guns? Thank you.

I'd be happy if the gun I have for sale [SN# 8758XX] is in this group. They are desirable guns.

Also there were duplicate SN# 1911's by Colt and Ithaca in the 856405 - 916404 range, or there about.
Colts will have the WB inspector mark. And Ithaca will have FJA [Or possibly GHD] like the one Im selling here.
