WTF? Idiots at NATO Afganistan base burns Korans

Some religious material including Korans were taken from prisoners because they were suspected of using them to pass messages. They were thrown into the trash, trucked out to the fire pit and burned. Way to F it up fellas.

The US military is in full damage-limitation mode, with Gen Allen making two contrite television apologies.

Afghan security forces have been put on alert nationwide amid fears of a repeat of the bloodshed that followed news of a Koran being burnt last year in the US.

This latest incident may have begun with the Americans uncovering a secret message system between suspected Taliban prisoners.

The Americans confiscated the Korans and other religious documents because they believed prisoners were using them to hide messages to each other, two senior Afghan officials told the BBC.

A military official familiar with the investigation gave a similar account, but it's still not clear why the Americans would then burn these books.

Would there be an uproar if these were Bible's? I think not. I dare say the media would praise such an action.

Because they were suspected of being used to pass messages I would have them boxed and remanded to .mil intelligence...where they could then be burned in secret. The big issue is that the situation was dealt with poorly, not the actions.

Remember that no matter what the religion the book represents the value is in the faith, not the printed word. Unless it was a cleansing of ALL copies in that country then who bloody cares? Muslims get too damned uppity when it comes to burning the books. Yeesh.

Well they get selectively uppity. It's a show of strength, kinda Al Sharpton style. Google "mosque attacked" and see how often they attack each others mosques or pilgrimages, never hear much about those.
