Here's a suggestion. This gun is an Olympic frame so ignore that. Olympic's are .22 short, but this is the pic I had available without going to the gun room. You said you weren't particularly interested in the Victory frame which may be that you don't like the grip angle . The High Standard Model 104 Supermatic Citation may be an interesting fun gun for you. It has a more angled frame than the 1911 which is what most new guns are modeled after. It's .22LR. The pictured gun has been converted to LR from a .22 short and is just for example. They are very affordable ($4-500). Your request is very loaded and subjective so the options are endless but High Standard as has been suggested several times might be a fun fit for you.

Connecting 2 threads here but I was just thinking on the topic of fun to shoot, .22 with a binary trigger is pretty fun. Mainly cuz ammo is so cheap it doesn't matter you are wasting rounds (unlike centerfire ammo). OR upcoming laws may limit this though of course. Anyway here is a 10 round burst w binary trigger in a S&W 15-22.

So, connecting that with the Stribog vs. mp5 thread that talked about stribog trigger, the Stribog .22 would likely accept the same binary trigger as the 15-22. That would be pretty fun to have that same rate of fire in a .22 subgun. Note that binary is totally different experience than full auto. It's sort of choppy and inconsistent, but still fun.

But it's pretty fast even w just regular semi auto as shown here:

Video of all grand power's .22s fyi. I have the k22 and it's a great trainer for the x-calibur.

Ok, had to go to the gun room. Here is a pic of the 104 Citation with removeable weight. Same frame as the Olympic, just roll marked differently. Olympic is .22 short and has the 5.5" barrel chambered for short and an aluminum alloy slide. The Citation is .22LR and in this case has a 5.5" barrel chambered for LR and a steel slide. Playing in the High Standard world you would have several hundred different models available to choose from. Triggers are very nice!

I was in Oregon Rifle Works yesterday and they had a Supermatic Trophy, it was nice!

Which model? The 106, 107 and ML Trophy, SH Trophy are Military grip which is the same grip angle as the 1911. The 102, 103 and 104 Trophy are what is called the slant grip and is the same as the pictured 104 Citation.
Not sure, but the barrel profile and rear sight placement were like this one

That pic is an 8" Model 103 Trophy, it has flat bottom weights, the 102 had a lower hump on the weight and they discontinued the 8" and 10" barrel in the Model 104 series. The rear sight is located on the barrel so it has to be a 8" or 10" barrel. The 6 3/4" barrel the sight was located on the slide.

Since I had a couple Woodfords tonight and feeling happy I will share. Here is a couple of latest acquisitions. A Supermatic S-101 that was sold to the Govt. Issued to the USMC with serialized .22 short conversion kit and a Model GB also Govt. issued that went to the USAF as an Arctic Survival pistol to air crews in 1949.

Here is an example of the gun you posted a pic of with the optional oak presentation box (blond wood box), Model 103 8" barrel Trophy, and a Model 104 7 1/4" fluted barrel trophy.

One of the benefits of a full size "trainer" is you can practice a ton for very little cost. Really fun to see how you improve with a timer. Trigger is the same as its 9/45/40/10/9mm makarov big brother in this case. Note guy is incorrect that you have to get different springs for subsonic. Gun has two springs on guide rod and you are supposed to remove one if running subs. Mine runs fine with subs using both springs but I use BN lube so that may be why.

I had a S&W Compact as an understudy to my S&W Shield, it was close, but 🤷‍♂️

Well, I picked one! I'll post photos after this post, but I picked up a S&W 622 at what I think is a good price, but before that, let's talk about my choices and all the great choices y'all came up with! Going try and get them all, so let's start with . . .

Get a revolver.
OK, not off to a great start, but a fair opinion and at some point I may do a thread like this for revolvers

S&W model 41
Marvel .22 conversion kit
Beretta 87 Target

All great choices! The S&W 41 is way out of my budget, but the 422/622 are good understudies to it. Conversion kits in general? Maybe it's just the bad memories of my JA Ciener kit, or maybe it's that Bob Day inspired 9mm 1911 that I have been working on for almost 10 years that I should have done in 2 weeks . . . The Beretta 87 Target was a tempting choice, but I couldn't find one to hold, so maybe next time

Lots of good info in this thread, and it did make me think fondly of my first really 22, a MkII bull barrel, but then I held on at ORR and I remembered how the Ruger frame feels almost, but not totally right in my hand and how much that bugged me

Colt Woodsman
High Standard
NOT the 22a

The Woodsman are nice! Never owned one, shoot a couple different ones, sadly out of my budget. HIgh Standards will come up again in a big way! The 22a? Not a huge fan of 22's that crack the frame right were the SN is, so yeah, hard pass!

Pick any offering from North American Arms.
Yeah, see the thing is, I also don't go to restaurant pop-ups in the middle of semi deserted warehouses where the chef has curated a menu to push the boundaries of what the dining and and food expectations are
SW22 Victory
I had one, nicely kitted out, something about the grip I could never get used to the shape of it, even tried a couple aftermarket grips for it

p938 22lr (also in 9mm with a conversion)
Didn't see one this time, but I'm going keep my eye out for one I can hold, this one intrigues me

Stribog .22
hk 416 pistol
mp5
hk g36
hk 416

Also all intriguing but not what I'm looking for right now

Colt/Walther Umarex 1911
Grand Power K22

The Colt is still a maybe next time, the GPK22 being polymer doesn't do much for me right now, but who knows what next year will bring

Kel-Tec P17
Again polymer, and I have a hard time with any gun (other than an AK) being held together with screws

Walther SP22
An intriguing polymer, I remember holding one years ago, not sure I ever shot one

Walther Hammerli X-Esse

Love to hold one someday!

Browning Challenger or Nomad
Both good choices, no real reason I didn't look at them more seriously, maybe next time

CZ Kadet
Went down a rabbit hole with this one! I love the CZ style guns and have a small frame 9mm EAA Witness on my Other Wants List and before I knew it I was looking at around $1,600 in my cart :s0140:

Whitney Wolverine
Beretta Neos

I would absolutely love an OG Whitney Wolverine! But they are around $1300, the mags (when you can find them are $125 and parts are unobtainable. The new production one is crap. I had a Neos. Meh

Rock Island XT in 22 and 45acp two for one
A good suggestion, if I didn't already have a 45acp 1911 it probably would have been a strong contender

Integral Belgian Browning challenger
I mean, who doesn't want that? 😍

Pp sport
Fn/browning 150

Very cool, definitely to my tastes! On my list for next time around

Walther p22q
Polymer, might be great, but not for me right now

Browning Black Label
Stopped by Sportsmans, they had one and it's just a little bit too small, I think they said that it's 7/8 scale and if they've done 8/9 or 9/10 scale or something it might've been OK, but it's just a tiny bit too small.

TX 22
Polymer, might be great, but not for me right now

Trejo Model 1
Maybe my grandkids will find one for sale

Margolin
In my dreams!

Beretta 22
Shot a couple Beretta 9m over the years, never warmed up to them 🤷‍♂️

Chipmunk Pistol
Well, not semi auto, but that does look like it would be fun to have at that price

Ruger Charger
I shot a Ruger Charger back in the mid 80's, didn't see it was worth the trouble, also really surprised that only two of you did the math

Nelson Customs 22lr 1911 conversion kit
If I were to get a conversion it would be this one

High Standard Space Guns
Sooooo cool! On my next time list for sure!

Binary trigger
I could afford the trigger or I could afford the ammo, but probably not both

OK, I think I got them all, next up, the one that I ended up getting :D

I was in A Cut Above and they had a 4" S&W 622 Field model with 3 mags for $500. Looked at it a couple times, decided to get it, asked nicely and walked out the door for $460.00. I haven't found a SN lookup, but I think it's an early model, but I also don't think it's been fired outside the factory! None of the mags (all the 12 round version) have any marks on the followers and it's super clean. Also dry as a bone, so that need to be fixed.
Things I like:
It fits my hand very well, the grip angle brings the sights up were they are supposed to be and the size / weight of the pistol feel corect, not to light, not too heavy and well balanced. The low bore access will be great if/when I pick up a pewpew can for it and mags are reasonably priced. Parts (although possibly not cheap) are available. This one has fixed sights, but if it is a keeper I think I Leupold DeltaPoint Micro might work very nicely on it 🤔
Things I am unsure of:
The mag release is different, time will tell
Things I don't like about it:
Nothing just yet, but again, time will tell :s0114:

Nice, that's pre AWB. A member here had one for sale that had ten rounders. It has scratches too. I will get one of those someday, but it will have to be super clean. I think those came out in 1987, and sometime before the decade of the 90's ended, they were dropped. Does it have the box?
