I've been seeing more and more of them at my local range. The last half dozen times I've went out I've seen atleast 1 guy with one proud as could be grinning ear to ear. Both my lgs push them pretty hard (imo for good reason) they're awsome, I can hand my wife my .300wm in a fairly light rifle and have her shoot it with a can no problem. Suppressed handguns are kinda silly in anything other than .22 but I still love them.

Hmmm, I've been fortunate enough to have religious beliefs that discourage drinking, so it's never been much of an issue, but I can't drink either. I didn't know there was a genetic tie-in and now I wonder if that's my problem - if I drink I don't get drunk, I get a hangover almost immediately, and my face flushes red. Something like that?
I don't get hangovers at all, at least not of the "head hurting half blind" type. I just get sore all over, like the flu aches or you got worked over in the boxing ring. I don't flush either.

Your symptoms sounds like "Asian Flush" which is almost the opposite. It is an intolerance to alcohol and while it does lead to an elevated resistance to drunkenness, the genetic mechanism by which it does that differ.

This paper covers several different types of genetic alcohol sensitivities, and the various combinations common to various populations.

I get hangovers if I walk into a liquor store. No consumption required.

More seriously, though, if I have 2 drinks in a sitting, my next day is ruined with our without intoxication. Used to be able to drink a fifth, now it's one beer safely.

Probably spot on. My gf is asian and occasionally if I have a bourbon that is especially unique or tasty and have her take a sip, the asian flush shows up almost immediately.

Not a single person in my family tree back 30 generations or so was from somewhere other than the British Isles, Normandy, or Denmark, and those aren't my symptoms exactly, but I get flu like symptoms way before I cop a buzz - yes, I've been drunk, but I'd rather have food poisoning again :)

Been sober (also known as a quitter) since March 2019. Best decision I've made.
I have a long term FWB who won't get sober. 2 DUIs and a stint of homelessness didn't convince her, now she's hiding alcohol use. Kicked her out of the house and told her to sober up in the car she can't start until she blows clean. No longer interested in the benefits.

Quitting was absolutely the best decision you made.

As with all things moderation and limits. If you have any kind of problem with something sometimes the best course of action is avoidance. And that does not deserve judgment, that deserves admiration. It does not matter if the problem is substance abuse, spending addictions or any other kind of compulsive behavior, having the strength to keep it under control and avoid the problem entirely is an admirable trait. Like, it is no surprise why people that get sick on alcohol are not alcoholics, they get zero benefit from the stuff, even in the short term. But for someone for whom the stuff hits all the short term happy chemicals in their brain? Yeah, them keeping away demonstrates a solid control of will and fortitude.
