The original Ruger M77 has a sliding safety on the tang, an adjustable trigger and is not a controlled round feed, even though it has the claw style extractor. The M77 MKII has the swinging safety, non adjustable (and sometimes not very smooth) trigger, but is controlled round feed.
Then the M77 Hawkeye. Basically the same gun as the MKII but has the better, but still non adjustable "LC6" trigger, and a slightly slimmer stock with more checkering.

We have three of the MKII rifles and one Hawkeye. The wife's Compact is the one that has a farily crappy trigger, but it hasn't stopped her from killing things with it!:s0155:
