And the frisbees!

@Ura-Ki - now you've gone and done it -- got me gettin' all misty about all the best friends we've shared our lives with who are no longer with us ...Max, Olivia, Lili, Molly, Merc...

Yup this whole thread has had me all welled up and leaking a little bit!
Brunhilda, Heidi, Marbles, Rusty, Rio, Maximus, Goof, and recently, Skidder! All were amazing dogs that lived the best life we could give them, they were all loved as deeply as any child and are deeply missed now that they have all crossed the rainbow bridge! Dogs make us better Humans, we don't deserve dogs, but some of us are lucky enough to be owned by a dog or two, and that is a blessing like no other!

Here's Munch taste-testing the nutball recipe... we made some with peanut butter, some Nutella, some mixed.

Seemed to take his time savoring it, but didn't ask for seconds. I think it's "a little goes a long way."

Just picked up a new Doeling, her name is Gabby on account of home much she talks. A few more days in the small pen and then it's our in the big pasture for weed control.

Cats, Horses, Miniature Horses, Chickens, Goats, you name it, we have it. Just no dogs, maybe some day again, just not right now.

THe Great Hans! Never thought I would ever have a Malinois,, having been around them in the service, I never even considered them as a home pet! Boy were we in for a life changing experience!

Guess who Runs this house, and don't you forget about it ether! LOL

Such a Momma's boy!
I've heard they're a handful and that the breed absolutely has to work and exercise. Is that true?

Absolutely! The biggest thing, they are so damn smart, that if you don't train them and give them a job to do, and they have so much energy, your just asking for trouble if you don't train them and start on day ONE! Now, with all that said, they are also super family oriented, and very good around children, but you have to get through the Baby Shark faze, and that can challenge the best of us! All in All, if you understand the breed and how it might fit with your situation, they are fantastic dogs to have!

Millie,

Thank you for saving my life.

You came to me just after Mom passed, when I was at my lowest, and gave me a reason to stay. I'm sorry we didn't get to hunt as much as we wanted, but you always made me so proud when I watched you in the field.

The field where I just dug the hole and laid you to rest after you died in my arms this morning.

Hie on, Millie. Find the birds. I'll be along in time to knock 'em down for you.

You'll always be my Little Sweetie-Pie Girl.

Dude..hang in there. Reach out to someone if you need to.

Not to diss the Man Upstairs, but... one has to wonder why He gives us such affectionate, loyal friends with one hand, and so little time with them with the other.

One of my first items to ask Him to help me understand when it's time to settle my accounts...
Better to love and lose than never love

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

"When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

"All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

"They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

"You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

"Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…."

I'm good. Millie came from a GSP Rescue kennel and was 5 months old when I got her. She'd have been 14 in Oct. It was a good run. :)

Looks like I'm back to preparing for war... somebody hurt Munch. Little guy's running around on three legs with his left forepaw held curled close to his body... no visible wounds or breaks though, and he is using the paw to help eat but not walk on.

I particularly keep an eye on this guy from the pups because he kinda reminds me of me when I was small, just wants to savor good food, mind his own business and let the world go by while he does his own thing.

Some predator may have made a grab for him and missed. They are food for many others. When I walk of my dogs I let her have free run of the place. She LOVES to give chase to the furies here. Now that there is so many young she will now and then actually catch up to one. If she does I just beep her collar to call her off. Week or so ago she came up on an adult that was badly injured. Could hardly walk at all where something had gotten him. I had to put him down with a night stick. Hawks here go after them for food so one may have got him and could not hold on. Place we used to live there was one who only had one eye. He had some nasty scars on his face from some battle and one eye was white. He was there for a couple years and seemed to be an Alpha as no one seemed to want to mess with him. Nature is fun to watch but is often quite cruel to see in action.
