I have ordered and received some of the Servicios Primers through Norma USA. There are some other newer to our market primers out there as well (Ginex, Fiocchi, S&B, etc) and I was wondering how they would perform against the standard American brands.

If a primer was going to fail to do it's job what circumstances might bring that to light?

Are there any pistol powders that are hard to ignite?

What firearm platforms are most likely to have light strikes with small pistol primers?

How do you evaluate a brand, style of primer before deciding to really stock up on it?

I bought some European 9mm NATO ammo from Walmart one time and the primers were pretty hard to ignite. I had several failures to ignite and sometimes it would take three attempts to set them off. I hadn't experienced that issue with any other ammo used in the same pistol.

For pistol, the only major concern is light primer striking, causing failure to fire.

Test using the various handguns you have. Better if you know you have had issues with a gun you own doing light primer strikes with various commercial ammunition.

Difficulty seating & loose seating can be overcome if noted on the reloading bench.

IMO

Id say Glock would be the easiest to test primer function with. . Striker springs in varied weights are available. Just put together a couple diferent weight striker assemblies and check the primers. Servisio's are the hardest primers I have used by far. Also a batch of magtech i got aren't too good either. But I have specific tools they all work in and for that they get used. The higher volume applications get the cheapies anyway/

A bunch of guys on another forum I'm on bought the servicios. Most common issue was hard seating and poor ignition. Took lots of effort to get them seated properly and the ones that weren't muscled to the bottom failed to fire, even in a revolver. For the penny a piece you save, not worth taking the dive IMO.
