All anti gun laws are anti-American.
Everything the gobermint has, we get to have.
The NFAs have only made things worse.
"it has a black thing that goes up" In NOT "Shall not be Infringed" PERIOD

I dunno man, pillories have seen a huge increase of being built and used by the BDSM community..... Do you really want to see people having sex in pillories in the public!? :s0001:
Although movies and tv shows may repeatedly show the "customary townspeople abuse" of persons in stocks (rotten vegetable throwing, poking with sticks, verbal insults, etc.), in reality sexual abuse/assault is well documented and was an important part of the deterrence factor, with some of the worst of it occurring under cover of darkness.

Think happy thoughts.

Stocks/stockades are for feet, sometimes hands too. Pillories are for heads and hands.

Can you imagine how terrified the rest of the world would be, if it eventually goes that the only thing the Government have that the People don't have access to; are nuclear, biologic and certain chemical weapons?

Everything else is accessible to the People, no restrictions, no background checks, only sales/excise taxes and how much they cost.

Imagine how fast weapon technology development could go if any backyard shop inventor can develop whatever they want other than NBC weapons.

Advanced drone systems, better ammo technology, hobbyist missileers, better vehicle systems, crazy aircraft.....

Just don't make that choice for others.
This is the idea of liberty that this country was founded on, but has been lost on so many fronts, not just 2A. Everybody seems to think their way of life is the only respectable and acceptable way of life, and there are far too many ready to tell everybody else how they should live. My personal opinion? Live how you want, own what you want, shoot what you want, do what you want, screw who you want, praise who you want, and die in whatever fashion makes you happy; as long as you're existence does not impede on the well-being of others. This is the pursuit of happiness. Mind yo business and do what makes YOU happy. That's why this used to be the land of the free that welcomed all people from all walks of life.

Couldn't agree more. "Your right to swing your fist ends where the tip of my nose starts," as the saying goes. :)

alternatively, it could correct in the other direction - the knowledge that EVERYONE would have access to the same tools to kill or maim a lot of people would perhaps make people think twice before rolling those out. I'm attaching no right-or-wrong judgment to this, just saying it could go either way, which is interesting to think about.

Eh. Look at all the various technicals and crazy weapon systems being built in North Africa-Middle East during the endless warfare there. I'm still thinking the issue of money would probably limit a lot of things from most people (missile systems, land vehicles, warships, tanks, etc)

That would be socialism, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Nobody's talking about the needs of any. Strictly talking about the freedom to exist not being infringed. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I think someone wrote about it once.
I was only referring to why so many socialists believe their way is the only way and want to force everyone else to live the way they do.

IMHO.....it means what it says.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

NOT THIS.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, unless some Politician says it's reasonable and makes common sense to them."

Aloha, Mark

The right of the people -everyone in the US, not just citizens, not just law-abiding, not just government agents, and not just one specific class of people.
This is an area that bears consideration.

Specifically, back when our Founding Fathers came up with the 2A, they assumed they were speaking to the law abiding and not the criminal element. It has been documented that felons as we use the term now, were not guaranteed a right to bear arms. See this paper from the Wyoming Law Review, in particular section 261, which discusses this:

Also, when the 2A was formulated, slavery was still lawful in many states. I assume that this right was not intended to appertain to that class of people. In the early years of the republic, the idea of slaves having this right wasn't a consideration. There was a fear that arms in the hands of slaves might lead to rebellion against their owners.

I'll be the first to say I don't think illegal immigrants have any constitutional rights.
Laws varied in the English American colonies prior to the republic and thereafter. However, in early America as we know it, there were several classes of people who were commonly disallowed the owning of arms. Indians, slaves, criminals, in some places even Catholics (who were thought to be disloyal), and -- "foreigners." So even back then, this right was not "absolute."

"2A Absolutism"
Is there any other law anywhere that should not be taken "absolutely" for its word?
