Anyone know what kind of gun this is? Only markings are a crown gr and Japan 106 on it

Have you taken the barrel and lock off to see if there are any hidden markings?

Just my guess, but it looks to me like a japanese knock off copy of an American style trade gun from back in the mountain man and fur trapper era.

Andy" one of our moderators might be of more assistance since he is into the old blackpowder stuff

I vaguely recall the Japanese firm Miroku made muzzleloaders back in the funkadelic 70s. Perhaps one of those?

But, as was mentioned above, @Andy54Hawken is our resident expert in all things black powder. :)

Looks like a kit gun sold in 1960 to 1970s called the Ultra-Hi Minute Man. Dixie gunworks use to sell these.

DO NOT SHOOT unless you have the barrel tested. It is a two piece construction threaded together.

If it is^^^ that, here is more information:

The gun in the OP is indeed a Ultra-HI "Minute man Musket"

To be honest here...
As much I like ( love ) muzzle loading firearms both antique and new....
I hope you didn't pay much for it...or plan on shooting it.
The two piece screwed together barrel is not safe for shooting.

It has a crown on it with gr next to it and on the barrel it has Japan 106. What year is this exactly and would it be original or a gun kit

I paid $350. Hope I didn't over pay for it

It is from the 1960's or early 1970's.
It ain't a copy of any actual musket...and it was made at a factory...not a kit gun.
$350....yes...sorry to say , that is too much.

Of all people, Andy, you should know just like everything else, the price of education is going up.
This is a perfect example of what I have experienced and came to know as, "a cheap education".

I'm wondering if the barrel can be swapped out.

Maybe but....you would also have to get a breech plug...and of course fit it all to the stock.
And....
Take apart the lock...smooth / polish it and "time it " so that it works properly...as well as hardening the frizzen...
A whole lot of work and a decent barrel will cost damn near as much or more than what the OP spent .
( Speaking of a new barrel here...)
