Good on ya. I switched over to Proton services a long time ago: based out of Switzerland, no logs, and PGP based zero access encryption.Today's feature presentation was OPSEC.
I started the long-overdue process of moving away from a decades-old Gmail account and over to Fastmail. Since Gmail launched back when flip phones still had dignity, this turned into more than "just get a new email address."
A wee bit of shopping was required. Custom domain, aliases, recovery options, what accounts point where, what old logins need to be cleaned up, and how many digital breadcrumbs I have apparently been leaving around like a drunk raccoon in a pantry.
So, today's prep was less beans, bullets, and Band-Aids, and more digital housekeeping.
Not glamorous, but neither is finding out your oldest email account is basically the master key to your entire adult life.
Yeah, started a new email on Proton. Can't get it to work on my iphone but that's ok. I do most things on my computer anyway.Good on ya. I switched over to Proton services a long time ago: based out of Switzerland, no logs, and PGP based zero access encryption.
The filter I bought comes with a particulate meter. The water from the faucet shows 80-90 ppm (probably almost solely iron oxide - i.e., rust - which is visible, and can especially be seen when I let it settle). I measure the water after it goes thru about 4-5 paper coffee filters; it is about half that - 40-50 ppm. The water after it goes thru canister filter, it is zero ppm (hence the brand name of the filter; Zero Water Filter).Well, the coffee filters are working well - picking up a lot of the sediment - that should make the water filter last longer.
I also let the water set in a measuring cup for a while before running it thru the filters, and the heavier sediment settles to the bottom which I can then discard.
We have very hard water, but it tastes great. We are constantly cleaning the white residue off faucets and shower doors. The filter I bought comes with a particulate meter. I have noticed that as I separate the paper coffee filters, each layer has some iron sediment it catches - so it is worth it using multiple layers.
As I said, the goal of the coffee filter is to lengthen the life of the canister filter, which is rather expensive - but so far the original is still working fine.
Yes - I have calcium in my water. It is not a big deal for me (I think). We have very hard water, but it tastes great. We are constantly cleaning the white residue off faucets and shower doors.
I used to wash my truck and cars myself. They would end up with spots if I didn't dry after. I bought a ionization filter which dropped the TDS down to less than 1 thousandths. After 5 years of using it it is still 3 - 4 thousandths and no spots.
It has two filter units 3 feet tall and 2 refills. Built in TDS meter. Not safe for drinking though.
NICE Dude! That should Hold a Deer Nicely! The ATV trailer is beginning to take shape, need to enclose the box, build a basket for the back, and some other odds and ends.

I have vegetarian emergency food, arriving, today. This thread is meant to be on-going forever.
Feel free to post what you did, be it, getting chains for your tires, digging a well, buying ammo, MREs, tents, OFA training, canning vegetables.
Anything you feel is preparation for an emergency.
Others can get ideas for stuff to buy, reminders to get chains for My Hood ski trips, etc.
Only post what you actually did this day to prepare for an emergency.
If you didn't do anything, please don't post, but feel free to read and get ideas of what others are doing to prep.
