Thought I'd try another area for Elk hunting starting on Saturday for a 4-day hunt. I paid for a recreation permit on the Longview Block of Weyerhauser.

The cost was a bit high, and the rules made me feel like I was under curfew at home with the parents, but it was only a 4-day hunt.

Then a few days after my scouting where I selected my route in with a trailer and the camp we'd use, I got an email saying they were logging on the route and I couldn't use that way in.

Then on the morning of opening day, we discovered they had pulled a major culvert and blocked the main road (with no email notice) where I had also marked places to hike in and hunt.

That meant the entire group of permitees were jammed together on half of the area and most everyone just began road hunting out of frustration.

I will never do that again, as it was a waste of time/money, and I'd suggest anyone considering it to use other locations with Weyerhauser carefully. 😡

🖕 Weyerhaeuser.......that's all I got to say.....
Weyerhaeuer " they don't abide " ;)

We have property that borders what used to be Longview Fibre. They were great neighbors and supported the sportsmen by opening gates during deer and elk season.
When Weyerhaeuser bought it, it talked to one of their foresters about what we would see, he mentioned that they have a more aggressive harvest rate than Longview did. No sh!t! They chopped down everything were I used to hunt, then posted that land No Trespassing.

He didn't say anything about locked gates and "pay to play".

Corporations should not be allowed to own natural resources or public land. As long as hunters keep paying for access they create a "pay to play" culture that will only get worse and more expensive.

They also should not get those massive tax breaks either. It was explained to me back in the day that those tax breaks were negotiated for access to hunting and fishing on their private land by the state. ROLL THEM BACK!!!

Your 100% right but good luck on a Roll Back of the taxes or the State enforcement on open hunting.

I'm not too upset by the ownership, but those lands are supposed to be accessible to the public and they're not.

Then you should be upset about the ownership...
They are there to log, not manage recreation. They dont want anyone there. They have to allow access, but nothing says they cant charge for that access, so they charge exorbitant fees for the rich, which virtually locks out the others. And as long as some people keep paying, it will only cost more and more.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I am not opposed to corporations owning the land, is what I meant. I didn't mean to imply that I like it that Weyerhaeuser owns it. The only good thing for me is they made my land a better habitat than theirs for a while.

It's there property, you know private property. They are running a business to make money. It used to be open to everyone tell a few bad apples ruined it for all of us. Permit entry is a way to hold people accountable.....in permit areas you don't see dumping of trash, abandoned cars, destroying forest by 4 wheeling. If you don't like it go buy your own private property.....do I like weyco? No I don't

My point doesnt have anything to do with how peoperty rights work.

What public land does weyco own? Natural resources as in timber? They do a hell of alot better job than odf or blm or fs managing there property
The land before they bought it was public. Yes, timber is a natural resource.
So is our wildlife.

So you want bigger goverment.....got it. Goverment does such a great job now they definitely couldn't screw that up.

The goverment could f up a wet dream! No thanks
Well Wayerhouser effed up the OPs hunting so not that great. They dont give a hoot about wildlife or hunting.

Its the classic debate for sure. I dont believe in bigger govt, i believe in a balance. When there's no more public land hunting as we know it is over.

Yes weyco sucks....honestly there isn't a good population of game on public land now because not much logging is happening. Make friends with a farmer, I haven't killed a animal on public land in.....well never actually

There's lots of logging happening on public lands. I have no problems with that, they get a permit or whatever and go to town. Im fine with that, how it should be.
Theres plenty of game too, its much harder due to public pressure true. Its virtually impossible to find a landowner to let us hunt. When all the land is sold, hunting is over.
