Which one should i buy: WBP vs. Zas M70?
What is pro and con of each? Thx
I don't know about WBP, the USA example.
Polish pattern stuff is considered very good.
I bought an M70 a couple of years ago before the Iron Curtain came down.

It's cool to have an AK with genuine walnut furniture.
The naysayers will say, "Oh, that's Yugo pattern, nothing fits."
I put a Polish bakelite grip on it on day one.
And a Chinese sling on day two.

It's a good lookin' AR
And it has the 1.5mm RPK receiver

Zastava hands down owned quite a few they are excellent rifles very robust. I would go as far as to say Zastava is just below Russian as far as quality. Now the Yugo style of AK is either love it or hate it. Certain features comes with the Yugo style but also draw back as AKM furniture is not compatible. Never have a problem running any kind of ammo in a Zastava now a Romanian Draco I had gave me problems but I fixed them.

The current trend amongst the AK crowd on YouTube is to crap on Zastava for some reason and favor WPB.

I own many Zastavas, I really like their AKs.
And now there is TONS of aftermarket parts support so customizing is a non issue.

Nothing wrong with WPB either, they make good stuff I simply don't own any of their products.

The Zastava M70 is very well made. No regrets.

A milled AK is going to be better than both the AKM and Yugo because (IMO) the stock angle is better.

The limiting factor for all AK variants is the quality of the ammunition and the ladder sights, which are technology from the late 1800s. Most American rifles use something like a peep sight, which is vastly superior.

As far as WBP vs. Zastava, I have both of the 5.56 versions (the 556 WBP and the Zastava M90). I like them both and you probably won't go wrong either way, but if I absolutely had to pick just one, it would be the WBP.

It's mainly a weight thing. The Zastava doesn't feel super heavy because to me it seems well-balanced, but it's much heavier than it needs to be and you don't really gain anything from that weight. The Zastava's weight comes largely from the thicker receiver and RPK-style trunnion. It inherits these features from the military design which fires rifle grenades and in sustained full auto. The commercially-sold rifles aren't even capable of these things, but still weigh as much.

You could argue these features add to durability, but this advantage exists mostly on paper. If a standard AK is properly made, the trunnion and receiver don't really fail with normal use; you'd sooner shoot out the bore before that happens. So at best, it's more durable than something that doesn't really break anyways.

A WBP with an optic+mount and a light, would still likely be lighter than a Zastava is bare bones. Plus better parts availability.

I have both, and both are fantastic. Zastava is Yugo pattern, which can be harder to find parts/furniture for. Also it has a thicker trunnion, so is heavier. WBP is traditional Ak, lighter, and very good quality. If i could only have 1, it would be the WBP!

It can be had with maple or walnut furniture so that makes the AKM compatibility thing a non-issue.
What other AK comes with walnut or maple furniture ?
None.

If you go to the WBP site, there are MANY wood options that can be ordered directly from WBP- the regular stuff- walnut, maple, red stain etc. But then they also offer a bunch of exotic woods- Wenge, Padauk, zebra, Purple Heart. . . .

Also can get lots of surplus wood, including my favorite- dong! ;-)

I have a WBP Jack with Russian sunburst furniture. I love it. I would also love to get a Zastava.

I don't have any experience with the WBP and have a zastava M70 and M91. Zastava as of late has had poor CS response in my opinion. It used to be good a couple of years ago, but is now at the point where there is no phone number you call to talk to anyone, all communication is now done via email. I have had no response on a couple of requests I have have had in the past year. One referring to the marked up finish of a M92 which I sold due to no response from CS, the other regarding the dinged up walnut furniture I recieved when I purchased the M70. I think their products are well built from the strutural perspective, but cosmetics and CS have been my primary gripe.

I have a zastava zpapm70 in 7.63X39 that I bought in August of last year. I've only put 700 rounds through it since then but with no problems.
Certainly not an expert as the zpap is my only one.
