How's about a thread devoted to, well, those offbeat revolvers. Unusual designs, odd or gonzo calibers, curious provenance, strangely modified, home brews, or anything else a little, shall we say, wacky. Have some to share? Enjoy!

With how popular suppressors have become, I've been hoping someone would revive the M1895 Nagant design into modern gun with modernized accompanying ammo.

That said, the original design fits the unique design and gonzo caliber categories.

True that.

I kinda-sorta-not really miss the M1895 Nagant I had many moons ago. Bought it for the princely sum of $89 with a C&R license. I simply can't believe what they go for now. This was before I heavily got into NFA, so with a little hindsight, it could have been a suppressed wheelgun. Neat, I guess, but trigger on that thing was, easily, the worst I've ever encountered on a handgun. I sold it many years ago when my better half went back for a Masters and I was jettisoning unused assets.

All that said, good point. With the modern proliferation of silencers and those of us who wouldn't mind a quieter revolver shooting experience, pity there isn't a modern spin on the concept. There is that weird, suppressed .45 ACP out of Deutschland, but that is hardly an accessible option. But it does look like fun. :D

I wish I had bought one of those when it was available. It's the perfect proportions for the X-frame.

I liked the 8-3/8" 500 I had, but it was comically large and mostly useless.
Totally agreed.

What I find really weird about the current X-frame offering is they have short (3½", 4") and really long (8⅜"), but not much in between. (I don't remember seeing the offering when I was looking for one, but they do now offer a butt ugly 7½" barrel variant.)

The (used) 6½", half-lug, model did exactly what I was after: the, more or less, handling of a Model 29, but on .500 steroids. Really a pity they discontinued the variant, for reasons that is something of a mystery. Anywho, they do turn up from time to time on GB. Adding an alert helps. Cheers.

I don't recognize this.
It is a Smith & Wesson Model 500, with ported 6½" barrel in .500 Magnum. The grips in those pics are aftermarket, likely Altamont considering my usual antics, though I swap between them and the factory rubberized ones. Smith, bizarrely, discontinued the variant many years ago.

The 500 I had was a 5", with 4" of rifled bore and 1" of interchangeable comps. It was heavy, but at least it didn't have that long barrel flopping around when in the holster. Apparently it's unique enough that it's hard to even find a picture of. This is a pic I found of the 460 with the 5" barrel.
I'm glad I bought it and played with it. It was a great experience.
