I first learned this from a post on how to use the mildot system to make long range sniper shots in the game Battlefield 3. After getting a basic understanding of how it worked, a friend and I got online in an empty server and went about 500 yards apart and practiced until we made the shot, then moved further apart, eventually ending up at opposite ends of the map, where I made a shot at about 1700 yards. When I made that shot, he wasnt even visible in my scope anymore (since you dont have windage and elevation adjustments in the game... Yet ;-).
I know its just a game, but it was still cool to learn how it worked and then make (in-game) shots from a very long range like that, when I had a hard enough time making 200-300 yard shots before. Now, if I could just find a good, free place where I can try it out sometime with a real gun. :)
