I did not think that you could take a metal flashlight like Streamlight or Surefire past TSA.

Do you have it in your carry on or wear it and put it in the tray for xray?
I've flown with quite a few different metal lights. On my person. TSA doesn't care. I got complimented on one of my Olights LOL. I hated to say I travel with them on purpose.

One of the air traveler tips I read said to get a light jacket with lots of pockets for your EDC items. That way you only have to put your jacket on the belt and it is easy to grab and go when you are done.

WOLVERINES!
That actually predates Red Dawn by roughly 3 whole weeks! A friend and I were hanging, contemplating the selfless sacrifice that yeast makes, talking about the San Ysidro McDonald's and how many were shot in the back running through the parking lot. As immortal 20 year olds are wont to do, we decided that should we find our self in a situation like that we would rather grab whatever we could to fight back and go out like Butch and Sundance*, even if using the cheap plastic that Mickey D's gave you, and thus, a battle cry was born!

* Well, at least George Roy Hill's version

I've had various handheld flashlights in my computer bag for decades and never a problem in any country's airport. I don't think they'd be happy with you trying to bring a 4-D Maglight on board but any EDC flashlight should be fine. Personally I'd stay away from crenulated bezels and other obvious striking points. Just like "tactical" pens they might get you more attention than you want.

I have a card similar to this

It has a 24 hour phone number for HIPPA, ADA, and TSA. Several people I know carry them, as far as I know no one has wanted to question it enough to call ADA or TSA! Not on cruise ships, trains, airlines, or court houses.
Personally I have never been questioned, never even gotten a second look. But maybe it's just my age. DR

A long time ago....
After a Drug Interdiction "exercise " in a country south of here...
We were flying back commercial , the Company I was in captured the most drugs as well as....making the most....well never mind.
So we "won" a flight back on a commercial plane....yay
In any event...

There we were....
In the airport...all battle kitted up.
Along the way we heard rumors of Bravo Company wanting and planning to take the plane from us.
First Sergeant says to me :
"Specialist.....take , secure and hold that plane...don't let them Bravo Company SOB's claim it."
Well....not one to let my First Sergeant down....
I take off double timing it..carrying among other items my M21...My spotter with CAR-15 and our Security with a 203.

We get to the plane and take...secure and hold it for our company.
An excellent flight home was had.

That said...
I still see some looks of the folks we passed as we made our way to the plane....
TSA did not exist then...
But if they did , Heaven Help them if they tried to get between some tired , grumpy and thirsty for booze , not to forget to mention horny...
Airborne Ranger Types and their plane... :D

Good thing that carry-on restrictions weren't ANYTHING like they are today.... y'all would've never gotten them oversized "blue bags" into the cabin, with ZERO chance of a reach-around!

Not even the fabled NBR Reach Around!?!?

Obscure joke kids, you would need to be an original "child of an unwed mother" to get it :)
