Idiots have been driving like idiots for a long time. It will only get worse. Society is degenerating at a high rate of speed IMO. I don't mean to sound like I'm perfect because I'm not. I had road rage in 2023 and it wasn't pretty. Lost money, went to jail, almost died.

My experience made it easier for me to remain calm now days. I have a valid license again, I pay $280 a month for car insurance, and I have a new truck again. That evil is still in me but I now chose not to be the old me. I still get the adrenaline rush, that rage to put the idiot driver in their place……. But I was that idiot once, people make mistakes, crap happens, and with the way things are now days, you might get shot while raging or getting even. Even if you get your revenge, you might sit in jail, pending a manslaughter charge like I almost did. All I can say is that the devil got a hold of me but Jesus saved me.

I believe the OP was in the right and that the other guy was a moron. You can either fight it like I did and pay a heavy price, or just leave it to god to do something about it….. or as I say, karma is a bit*h. Maybe I wasn't paying much attention growing up but now days it's amazing how much of the general public is so brain dead. I have my reasons as to why but I digress.

Be aware and defensive, do not flip anyone off or behave in an aggressive manor because you will only fuel their fire. When we see idiots driving like fluoride heads, we do not have enough info to know what is going on, so leave it to god to sort it out. Give yourself extra time and don't rush. I struggle to do good everyday but I try, sometimes fail, but never give up.

I owe some people in my county an apology. I can never say enough "I am sorry" for hurting a family member in that accident, I can never take away the fear I put into the witnesses when I turned my new truck into a 5K missile, chasing the idiot that messed with me.

Even when you're 100% right and were disrespected on the road, you do not want to go through the BS I went through….. you don't know me but trust me, you might kill an innocent human. Now, if you are a victim of hit and run, chase them and triple tap them lol jk don't do that either.

Let us be a good example because people notice it when you're a good driver. I have PTSD, depression, and anxiety, so if I can try to do better, you can too.

God bless.
Thanks for sharing, not everyone has the conscience thought to remain in control and let's anger take the controls. But I agree, it's not worth it.

As someone who carry's everyday, I'm always armed when behind the wheel and I work had at making sure I'm the most humble person as well. Not a doormat, but not going to let anyone else decide what hill I'll die on.

Let them go, knowing that karma will catch up with them, eventually. Besides I want to be a good example to my family.

Amen , try and do exactly the same.

When this happens, you guys wave at each other insisting the other one go. And when they don't, you order take out and wash your car until you both inch forward and crash into each other. Very "Portlandia". 😂

The guy doesn't have a stop sign? Moron. And definitely would be one of the MANY that get on the freeway doing 45mph and expect the people already on the freeway doing 55mph to the hit the brakes to let them in.

Right?! 😂 The going slow onto the freeway thing is insane to me…lol. Like please do not even get on the freeway if you're scared to press the gas pedal. You need to get up to speed, like instantly! Safely. But pretty much instantly. This is not a gradual process. Ugh!

OK...so I've been driving for like..almost 40 years.

But maybe I'm just wrong here...

I was turning left into a two way street. I had a stop sign, the cross traffic does not. The opposing side also has a stop sign. I got to the stop sign and waited for about 15 seconds for traffic to clear because I was turning left. A truck then approached opposite me..he also has a stop sign..and was going straight..no turn signal on.

When traffic finally cleared, I went into my left turn. The opposing truck also drove forward. I was a bit ahead of him and kept going. He got all pissy and flipped me off.

Was I in the wrong? Isn't there a courtesy rule? That dude knew I was waiting forever before he even got to the stop sign..

If I'm wrong I'm wrong..help me out here..

I had to stop and calculate. I've been driving for over 41 years. I might have let him go first because people have gotten increasingly stupid, but you had the right of way. I've driven in California (licensed there), Virginia (licensed there), all over Europe (international drivers test licensed there) and of course all over the United States. If you get to a two-way or four-way stop first, you go first, no two ways about it.

IF, I'm stuck in that right lane where I have to deal with an on ramp, I am happy to leave a generous space between me and the car in front of me for someone to merge into. It's up to them to accelerate and match our speed. I don't/won't hit the brakes on freeway unless it's necessary. If someone won't get up to speed they can take a place somewhere behind me. I've been honked at by those kinds before.

I've taught my oldest two kids to drive in the last several years (two more to go), and the scariest part without a doubt was teaching them to merge onto the freeway. No, no you can't stop! Speed up! More gas!! Punch it!!! Now you're going too fast, slow down!!!

I have become much more patient with other drivers on the road that don't seem to know how to drive. Maybe it's someone learning.

My recollection was also that the person going straight has the right of way. I guess because if you were both going straight, you could go at the same time. But man, when I've been sitting and sitting longer than the other guy, I only concede that right of way to him for the shortest time (nanoseconds) before I'm going for it. :p I've been flipped off before, no biggie.
Nothing makes my day more than a, "Hollywood howdie." Not only do I enjoy being told I'm, number one, but to my chagrin, I often return the gesture.

I can contribute to the thread with one of my tangentially related stories:

The way I heard it, this guy was getting a ride home from work with a buddy, who was telling him about how he was looking forward to dinner. His girlfriend's, hopefully soon to be fiancé, parents were in town and he would be meeting them for the first time.

About that time a car pulled out in front of them, an older gent who seemed a little lost. The buddy flips the old guy off and yells, "Learn how to drive, stupid old man!"

The next day at work the guy asked his buddy how the dinner with the future in-laws went.
The buddy seemed really down, embarrassed: "Well, you remember that old man who accidentally cut us off? Yeah, uh, that was her dad…

You do you, but it's definitely a good way to make an already irritated person more irritated.

Thank you for using your turn signals, it seems like they were an option for a lot of people because they never use them. Kinda like stop signs it's only a suggestion. At least you finished your day.
