I've never heard of the "9 Rules of Tracking" as if it were something set in stone. So it's almost a waste of time to try and discern them, especially if it's for a test and they already know exactly what it is you're supposed to say. That said, there are the common:

-don't go beyond the last known sign
-track into the sun if possible
-don't step on the track
-always know where you are
-always know who you're looking for
-figure out how old the track is to determine your proximity
-stop at night

I mean you could go on and on but still it's like what exactly are they looking for because different schools teach different stuff.
