ok so I recently picked up a legit stock for my J.C. Higgins model 20 (it had been wearing a Mossberg 500 stock) off EBay and I am working on refinishing it. It also had the original recoil pad, which are fairly hard to come by. It is old, and the rubber feels brittle. Anyone have any tips for restoring some of its elasticity, if at all possible?

I would remove and save the original and replace it with a functional pad for shooting. If you would like to keep period correct look, check out Galazan Product/Connecticut Shotgun. They have a good selection of repro pads. I don't think they have a Higgins logo model, but should have one close in shape and color...
