I didn't know if I should be mad or just amused, but when attempting to access an old firearm article in the nra museum org's database I got this popup:

...and my IP puts me nowhere near kalifederation. Are they trying to make a political point or is this really necessary?

Most websites involving firearms and firearm accessories now require age verification. It's been like that for a while (but maybe I'm weird because I always have at least a dozen tabs open from random milsurp websites).
Retailers, yes. Universally common. I've just never seen it where you have to be over 18 just to read an old article from a museum org website that doesn't sell.... anything.

Porn in elementary school libraries is okay... just not historical information. That would just be "wrong".... 🤣

Oh the NRA is selling something... and they need better salesman because they're bleeding themselves dry

It's dumb as hell. Because what, nobody can figure out how to put in an age that's older than they are?

This is some form of safety theater that does nothing in reality, and besides, does reading about guns/firearms represent a problem for people under 18? What about tanks, fighter jets, swords, etc?

That's kind of what's funny. Any kid that plays those console games can cite off firearm specs, stats and carry on lengthy discourses on the pros and cons of each like nobody's business.

And we're worried about age restricting the reading of decades old snippets of articles for many firearms that haven't been in production for years?

Cu, meet Ckoo... and his other brother... Nutz. 😆

It's a dumb law passed that requires adult related sites to attempt to better age verify. I know most will think porn when the word adult is used. You'd think they would want better age verification on those sites… nope! Just gun sites, substance related sites like vaping, and a few others I've noticed. It's mandated they have some form of pop up asking to verify your age.

All in all, it's another example of politics thinking they would fix things, only for it to be an absolute waste of everyone's time.
