Don't mess with that Mom's goose 
Wife had me build an enclosure for our dogs for this reason. Rarely see Eagles or the large brown hawks here. Have a smaller pair, Sharp Shined or Coopers that feed on rabbits and Squirrels I fatten up.
She was afraid one of the larger raptors would grab one of the 5# dogs so I made a large covered place for them in back to keep them safe. That goose was really lucky to not be dinner.

An owl almost got my on leash 15 lb critter in my backyard in the middle of the night once. I felt the air moving by my head and an instinctual lunge and yell begondified it.
