Thinking about a LPVO

I'm thinking about getting a LPVO for my AR. I'm looking to spend around $300 tops. I don't have much experience with them, currently I am using a primary arms 2.5 x prism scope. There are a few LPVOs on Ebay I've got my eye on. https://www.ebay.com/itm/355818927825

Most people recommend FFP, but like your friend I like SFP scopes for the simplicity. The SFP holdover reticles your looking at will work only a max zoom which is where anyone will be if shooting long range enough to use them. The LPVOs for AR rifles are designed to zero a 300yd MPBR anyways. A lot depends on what you want to use your rifle for.

Primary Arms is good. I like my Vortex Strike Eagle.

I would watch this video. Basically it's everything you need to know about choosing an Lpvo. Guy does an excellent job.

I lucked out on a one day special on Palmetto State Armory and got a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8X with a Vortex mount for the unbelievable price of $250 + $9.99 shipping and tax. A buddy and my son also grabbed one, as it was a great deal. Really like the scope as does my son. My buddy hasn't mounted his yet, but I am confident he will be equally pleased. Might keep an eye out in case they run that deal again.

You just missed out on the Midway sale on a Burris RT-6 for $300. Best LPVO in that price range IMO and unlike most other cheap ones mentioned they are not made in China, they are made in the P.I. with Japanese glass. If I had the coin I would have bought two. Hell, even at their regular price of around 4 bills they are a great option. BTW, there is an "Optics" sub-forum down below that has this stuff covered pretty well.

Huge fan of the RT-6 here when I feel like a scopey boy. Have owned p4xi, vortex strike trash 1-6, or 1-8 (don't recall since it was trash) and vortex pst 1-6 ii so I have that reference. Great value and excellent quality glass on RT-6.

Primary arms is doing cool stuff, haven't tried out their LPVO yet. Was thinking of getting their micro-prism 3x.

Got my new sig tango 1-6 msr sfp mounted yesterday. Just need to get to a range and get it sighted in!

Sig Tango is the best "bang for your buck" LPVO in my opinion. Under $300 with a mount, and a really good warranty / customer service behind it.


I've got a Razor and I never tell people to buy them. The glass is great, but ultimately i'm $1400+ into something that isn't made in the USA and probably doesn't offer a ton more in value for most people.

Lpvo are the only way to go if you want a do it all rifle. There phenomenal. Lots of great options out there as other members have mentioned. I don't think you will be disappointed with any choice you make. Just know. Once you step up a little in price and class. The glass is amazing. Specially in low light conditions.

LPVO with a piggyback RDS is the only way go if you want a do it all rifle.

Why do you care if its made in China? (Just curious).

Because f**k China, I go out of my to avoid buying anything from those communist turds, especially when it comes to my firearm related purchases. I realize it is not 100% possible to avoid goods from China but I make sincere effort and often times go without over buying something made in China.

On top of that, the majority the optics coming out of China are the lower end crap, take Vortex and Primary Arms for example: Their low tier optics are made in China typically using Chinese glass, their mid tier products are made in the Philippines using Japanese glass and their top tier optics are made in Japan with a few made in the USA. I have compared side by side a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 (made in the P.I. with Japanese glass) against a Vortex Crossfire or Strike Eagle (don't remember for sure) 3-15x44 (made in China), externally they looked identical buy looking through them internally there was no comparison in quality of glass an therefore in image, light transference, shadowing, the Chinese version just looked like crap in comparison.

I see zero reason to support companies that use China to save/ make a buck when there are plenty of perfectly good alternatives made in the USA…

Truth is I prefer European glass if I'm going to lay down big bucks on a LPVO or scopes in general. Companies like Schmidt Bender, Swarovski, Zeiss, Kahles and Steiner just cannot be beat when it comes to top glass. Hell, even the most combat proven RDS are made in Sweden (Aimpoint). That said, yes, Trijicon also makes solid, combat proven products.

I would sure hope something that costs 10 times what another product costs would have some advantages. A crossfire costs 120$ versus the Viper which goes closer to 1000$. I am no fan of chineese or even phillipine made products but the two scopes you compared are not even in the same league when it comes to comparrisons.
