I don't agree with the practice, but I now understand why some cultures used stoning as a punishment.

January 21, 2014 -- Last May, Washington County Detectives received a report from the Department of Human Services (DHS) regarding alleged sex abuse by Michael Mallery, 48 who is a Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Pacific University. Washington Co unty Sheriff's Detectives investigated the allegations and a Grand Jury indicted Mr. Mallery for Sex Abuse.
Detectives received a report from DHS after an 11-year-old family member reported to a teacher, Mr. Mallery touched her inappropriately. One of the DHS workers was familiar with Mr. Mallery and recalled the same allegation was made against Mr. Mallery by another family member in 2010, who is now 15-years of age. No charges were filed at that time.
With the assistance of CARES Northwest, the 11-year-old family member was interviewed regarding the inappropriate touching. These cases are often complex and detectives conducted additional follow up. The case was ultimately turned over to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
In January of this year, the D.A.'s presented the case to a Grand Jury. The Grand Jury came back with an indictment on seven counts of Sex Abuse I.
On January 21, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., Mr. Mallery turned himself in to detectives at the Sheriff's Office. Mr. Mallery was lodged on the above charges in the Washington County Jail with a $175,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 22, at 3:00 p.m.

January 21, 2014 -- Earlier this month, concerned citizens came forward to report suspicions that an Aloha High School teacher, Eric Wise, 37, was involved in a sexual relationship with a former student, who was underage at the time. Washington County Sheriff's Detective investigated the allegations and ar rested Mr. Wise.
Mr. Wise is a marketing and business teacher at Aloha High School and was the victim's teacher for several years. He has been employed by the Beaverton School District since 2006.
Detectives interviewed several people who they believed had knowledge of the case and developed probable cause that the crime of Sex Abuse II and Furnishing Alcohol to a minor had been committed.
On January 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., Mr. Wise turned himself in to detectives at the Sheriff's Office. This case will be heard by a Washington County grand jury in the near future.
The Beaverton School District cooperated fully with this investigation. Upon learning of the investigation, the district immediately placed Mr. Wise on administrative leave. Detectives collaborated with the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.
Mr. Wise was lodged on the above charges in the Washington County Jail and has posted bail. His next court date is January 31, at 8:30 a.m.
Detectives are concerned there could be more victims and would like to speak with anyone who might have additional information regarding Mr. Wise. Please contact Detective Robert Rookhuyzen at 503-846-2673
