I believe this is correct, the rifling is a smaller diameter than the bore.Ai says bore diameter is .212
Critical tool imo. I bought mine as stainless rods from McMaster Carr. Part numbers are hereYou guys use alignment rods?
That's why I have the screenshot in the first post. Rod manufacturer says the rod is for .22, look at the photo. I'm not saying you're not correct, but I have not found a rod that is say, specifically for .17 to .22. All the smallest ones say they will fit .22 - .223The 22lr land diameter is not the same as 223....
You need a 22lr rod...
Not me I like to live dangerously! I figure what's the worse that's gonna happen anyway I shoot a hole in all my baffles? Perfect now it's overbore and or white trash flow through ahahaha. And I always got my safety sqints on it'll be fine!Critical tool imo. I bought mine as stainless rods from McMaster Carr. Part numbers are here
Especially needed if using any sort of adapter.
Also some adapters are designed to align off the barrel's shoulder, and other la off the thread protector or barrel. For example using a tri-lug you are supposed to have the thread adapter in place before mounting. Alignment rods can save a lot of trouble and save an expensive suppressor.
This is all new to me too. All my 22 cal rods fit both my 556 and my 22lr guns. My best guess is that rod mfgs aren't all aware of the land diameter difference and most mfs fit both but there might be a few mfgs that toleranced their "22 cal" rods on the larger 223/556 land diameter.....That's why I have the screenshot in the first post. 'Fit' is simply a matter of velocity.

So do you have a best guess as to what diameter I should by? I can get almost any precision diameter Tight-Tolerance Multipurpose Oil-Hardening O1 Tool Steel Rod. I could get a .178" to be safe, but I don't want it loosey-goosey.This is all new to me too. All my 22 cal rods fit both my 556 and my 22lr guns. if its not threaded for a jag then you'd want the smaller diameter to accommodate the cleaning patch around it, or just press the patch in first then push the patch thru.I could get a .178" to be safe, but I don't want it loosey-goosey.
Sorry I couldn't reply earlier, but a quick web search and Wikipedia say the land diameter of 22lr is .212" so the .204 and .207 rods you bought should be great...So do you have a best guess as to what diameter I should by?
What I meant with this post was that the cleaning rod fit pretty good, and I was able to measure it at .204", so it gave me a place to start. Otherwise it was just a big guess as to the diameter of the rifling and what would fit. Thanks for your comments. I can't wait to get my suppressor on the new 10/22 and get the scope sighted in so I can start practicing and hopefully get good enough to maybe enter some events. I'll be curious to see if the suppressor has a negative effect on accuracy.if its not threaded for a jag then you'd want the smaller diameter to accommodate the cleaning patch around it, or just press the patch in first then push the patch thru.
I think you'll be okay, both of my threaded 10/22s that have cans on them are/were just fine. Pretty light and fairly "heavy" .22 cans….I've had pretty minimal poi shifts and pretty extreme poi shifts on centerfires with cans when they're first monted on a rifle that's zeroed with no can. but I've yet to have one make a rifle less accurate. In my experience so far they seem to help tighten the group a little if anything. What I meant with this post was that the cleaning rod fit pretty good, and I was able to measure it at .204", so it gave me a place to start.
