Hey y'all,

I'm in the process of outfitting my new EDC gun, a Glock 48 MOS. The 43X and 48 MOS use the RMSc mounting pattern, and while adapters are plentiful there aren't a lot of optics made in that pattern.

As I mostly carry AIWB, I'd like an enclosed sight to keep dust, lint, etc out of the optics. This leaves few options outside of "premium" offerings like Trijicon and Aimpoint.

My current plan is to get a Holosun EPS Carry with a mounting plate and Ameriglo backup irons from Calculated Kinetics.

However, I did notice this offering from Olight, the OSight-S, on Primary Arms' site today. It appears to be fairly new, but it's an enclosed sight, USB-C rechargeable, fits the RMSc mounting pattern with no adapter plate, co-witnesses with factory irons, and is $160, significantly less than the cost of the EPS Carry, mounting plate, and backup irons even on sale.

Olight seems to have a mixed reputation - Reddit generally hates them, but Reddit is mostly mall ninjas and I don't trust their judgment on things. I can find little information about them elsewhere, though the OSight-S seems to get good reviews on other gun forums if you get a good one - the consensus seems to be that their QC and customer service are both kind of hit-or-miss, which is disappointing but not surprising at the price point. I see little if any mention of them here.

So, does anyone here have experience with this company or their optics? Is it worth the gamble at $160?

Cheers!

Not olight.

Get the EPS or EPS carry. You can take a file and knock off the front lugs and and direct mount it without a plate. Both the EPS and EPS carry have the same footprint so you can choose either. I personally prefer full size optics. I'm with you on the enclosed emitters though. I personally don't run any iron sights.

My G48 that I have on me right now has an Acro P2 on it. I couldn't be happier.

Cool, yeah, definitely still strongly leaning towards and planning on the EPS Carry, but for the money I figured it was worth asking.

I have roughly 30 Olight products, from WMLs to EDCs to charging products. I have spent a good deal of money with Olight.

Buy something else.

I don't have any experience with Olight other than what I have read.

It may be great and serve you well. I'd definitely check into their warranty and see what it entails just in case you have problems down the road if you go that direction.

I would consider Olight "decent" on the Chinese scale of light options. I've had 4 of their handheld lights fail. All the same way, they stopped charging. I dislike Olight's USB charging puck thing and wish they would go 100% USBC. What kept me coming back to them was the good selection of brightness levels and the UI in general. Their QC is not as good as some others so I wouldn't chance one of their optics unless its strictly a range toy.

Enclosed optics all the way!

Buuuuut it works. Haha. It is ugly though. I'll give you that. I hate the DPP. RMRs are the standard.
I only have it because it came with my last purchase. What don't you like about it?

Edited: I'll message you, I don't want this to go off topic.

This is kind of where I'm at - it could be great, but it's not a gamble I'd want to take on my everyday carry gun. Maybe I'll pick one up in the future just to see if I like it and if it's a product I'd trust - it's an appealing proposition at less than half the cost of the EPS Carry, but I'm of the mind that one generally gets what they pay for and I am not in the business of taking those kinds of risks with my safety. Same reason I buy engine parts on eBay but not suspension or brake parts. ;)

For a .22 plinker it's fine. For a carry gun, no. Just go on the YouTubes, a lot of channels beat them up. It didn't take much to break them,,,

When I saw their email about the new optics, I just started laughing. No way a flashlight company that isn't shy about rebranding will have the resources, R&D or actual commitment to making a real contender. My $219 OStation is nothing more than a rebranded $179 Amazon Chinese power station. And after just a couple years they completely revamped the "OStation" name and the original is hard to even find via Google. Because they got caught and clowned on. I have one, and I use it often. Quality is decent, but slapping Olight on the side doesn't make it better.

True, though sometimes the cheap stuff is just fine! To my point earlier about engine parts, many years ago someone on a car forum I hang out on with access to some incredibly advanced tools did a comparison between a $150 intercooler from AliExpress and a $750 one from a bigger company. He found that they were identical in every way, from the dimensions (almost down to the millimeter) to the fin counts to the casting marks to the grades of aluminum used, leading him to conclude that they were identical products made in the same factory, one was just marked up 500%. I've been running the $150 one on my car for eight years with no problems. So, you never know! But yes, point taken in this specific case, will stick with my original EPS Carry plan. Cheers!

Not that anyone cares, but I went a different direction and have ordered a Gideon Valor Mini, for a few reasons.

1. in looking through one on a friend's gun, it played nicer with my astigmatism than the EPS Carry.
2. it's designed to fit the RMSc footprint on my G48 MOS, which means no need for an adapter plate or aftermarket sights to co-witness. It also doesn't hang off the end of the slides like the EPS Carry and has a bigger window.
3. Even without the expense of the adapters above, it's $175 cheaper than the EPS Carry.
4. Lifetime warranty (as opposed to Holosun's three year warranty) and I have been very impressed with the customer service I have received so far (I wrote and called and asked them a ton of questions and they were very gracious in answering all of them).

Gideon will tell you themselves that the EPS Carry has the better emitter, but as long as it holds zero and doesn't break that's really all I need. On paper I'm fine trusting my life to it, at least insofar as I would need a red dot in a life or death situation, which I regard as a skill issue. If it sucks or I feel like I wouldn't trust it after using it for a while, I'll sell or return it and go for the EPS, but Gideon is rapidly developing a good reputation and I'm fine giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway that is my Cool Story of the Day.
