I don't mean to hijack this thread, but.......

I was talking to a nurse/friend from a liberal county in CA, and she stated that all the nurses/DR.s in the hospital she works at "Hate the pharmaceutical companies because of all the pills they push, and their advertising practices".

I asked her if she accepted the pens and notepads they give away, and she answered "Well, yeaaaah".:)

Question; You and your associates thoughts on the pill pushers?

We dont let drug reps in our office. There are studies that show that using "samples" and having drug reps in the office will lead to inappropriate prescribing habits. Nothing in my office has a drug name on it. I actively search them out and destroy them.

There are good drugs the pharmaceutical industry puts out there. But they are also some of the worst blood thirsty profit-driven ogres to exist.

You know the "purple pill?" Used to be prilosec before it went off the market. The drug company took the exact same drug (omeprazole), used the S isomer of the molecule (exact same drug, just one side of its mirror image) and marketed it as Nexium and charges a huge amount of money for it. Isomers are used in many drugs as a way to renew a patent and make more profits while offering no benefit and no innovation to deserve their profits.

Solaraze, a topical cream, takes $3 worth of diclofenac (a cheep med that is just about identical to ibuprofen) and sticks it in some cream and charges $900 a tube for it.

selectively releasing studies to make their drugs look better, hiring doctors to push drugs patients dont need or for conditions they are not approved for, having a huge lobby in politics, marketing on TV advertisements to pressure patients to ask for meds they dont need, etc, etc.

I could go on for hours on the atrocities that drug companies do in the name of the all mighty dollar.

I figure this is a good thing...so the doc knows at least that they have the correct person's file...I'd hate to get prescribed medication I was allergic to just because someone had the same last name as me.

No, I want to know what you REALLY think....:):D
:D
At my last office I ran into a drug rep walking into the office at the front door. They did not realize that I was a doctor. I said "Thanks for stopping by but we dont see reps in the office" and that bubblegum has the audacity to say "well, how do your doctors learn anything if they dont talk to us?"

I dont think he knows how close he got to getting punched in the nuts that day.

Would that be called an "testicleoscopyvi esectionalectomy"? Couldn't you get the same results with some sort of topical? :D

Don't you always wear a stethoscope around your neck?o_O
Everywhere you go?o_O
Everything you do?

How the HELL are we supposed to know when there is a DR. in the house?:)

I think they're required to wear those glasses with the rubber noses and bushy eyebrows attached to them. :D

Sister died from too many pills prescribed for her. It started by destroying her kidneys and then a 6 month journey to death. Along the way they gave her new pills that didn't mix that gave her a heart attack and a stroke. Couldn't do surgery because they put her on blood thiners. She had way too much trust in her doctors

I and my wife have been through so many PCP's in the last 3 years that on the rare times I do go to the Dr's office, the one I saw last has moved on and they set me up with some new one who is more interested in how fast they can run my arse through and go on to the next one. Most seem like English is a second language anyway. About as personable as the door knob.

My specialists at OHSU on the other hand are great providers. They don't really need to feel my arse on the right hand back pocket side, so they will probably will not know what is there anyway. Wife usually has one under her pull over anyway.

I'm reminded that the Doctors at the Death Camps were "helping humanity", many were good family men, dedicated husbands, avid hunters as well.
There is no limit to a person's ability to rationalize the evil they do

I've read all your responses and REALLY enjoy them, keep this attitude!!!! :D

<- Why there aren't any school shootings in Israel!
Teacher with long gun slung over her shoulder!!!

The only reason a Dr. needs to know if you have a gun is if you have a derringer up your rectum and he's going to do a colonoscopy!

I work in a retirement center, we wanted to take pictures of the residents with their permission. We were told we couldn't do it as it was an invasion of their privacy even if they gave permission!

I have a fairly simple rule. If they do not require it from criminals, illegal immigrants or other minorities, they shall not get it from me. I want to be treated at least as well as a criminal from Mexico.
