I too prefer text vs a call. I like to have written conversation that I can refer back to if needed (verify date/time of meetup, make and model of car, etc.).

I keep track of most of my NWFA purchases via NWFA conversations. I like to be able to go back and see when I bought something and from whom. Also, addresses/places to meet - I would have to write them down if they are not in a text message, and it is awkward to write while holding a phone to my ear. Plus having a hearing deficit I often hear things wrong; sometimes my daughter has to text me while I am sitting next to her, because I do not understand a word that she spoke (something about her voice).

So if you want to buy from me or sell to me, texting is pretty much mandatory. And the more info the better.

I suspect that she provides all the pertinent details in her ads, and that the people who question her description are tire-kicking incels. Tell me if i am wrong.

I suspect many of them don't read the entire ad.

This is sadly just the way it seems to be now. Last two times we sold a car we just let the dealer have it for just this reason. Told Wife each time, yes we could make more than they are offering to sell it ourselves. Each time though I would weigh what I would be willing to take cash, vs what dealer was offering, and then the odds I would have to deal with the no shows from buyers. Was willing to take less to just not deal with idiots. Last few times I was giving something away free I would ask a small amount for it. Buyer would show up, want it, then want to pay. I have told them give it to your favorite charity. I only put a price on it because listing it free would get a parade of people who would claim they wanted it and never show up

I had the first FOUR interested parties, no show! Then I had a guy tell me to go to a site to see what my truck was really worth. The price of an item is what someone is willing to pay

I 100% agree I judged all my Pre-941 purchases that way.

It was a nice to to be alive, but also I always , picked a very public place with cameras near by.
Only twice at truck stops which I did not like. But ended up making friends to go back and buy/sell from those two.

Digress I also wanted to know if the dude was felon and as mush as libtard law makers say it was impossible.
You meet eye to eye you know if they person is on the up and up. People start to get squirrely.

No Communitcation tell em FO and find another source. Nothing is worth a sale.

Pre '15, I was more than once asked for my driver's license to ensure I was a state resident when purchasing a gun.

Most of the time (from about '86 to '10) I lived in WA state and most purchases were at WAC gun shows, so all I really needed to do was wear my WAC badge at the show.

I've had two potential buyers for my truck flake on me. I get a little grumpy when my whole day gets screwed up because to many people, their word is meaningless. My son was selling a pickup and met the potential buyer at a parking lot. The buyer came with two friends. My son was distracted long enough for one of them to pour oil into the radiator expansion tank. They then tried to get him to come way down on the price. He told them to FO and left. He only had one friend with him, and I know my son was armed.

I was buying a diesel Mercedes for the engine. The guy insisted it ran. He couldn't get it started, so I talked him down 1/3. Before accepting the price, he said, "let me try once more." This time, after he tried, I opened the expansion tank, which was under pressure though empty, and out poofed a bunch of diesel exhaust. My offer dropped to $500. No sale.
Those guys were stupid, because oil in coolant never looks like oil, it looks like milky coffee.
On topic, there's a member here who will negotiate and agree to a price, then try to talk you down again.

When I was still buying to play then selling to play with a new toy I did ask to see ID to make sure they did live here. I used to make it clear in the ads that I would and would write them a receipt for the sale. Later made digital copies of these to keep just in case a gun ever ended up at some crime that had been papered to one of us at some time. Don't remember anyone ever having any problem with this. Sure do miss those days. It was fun to play with some new to me gun since I knew if I later found something else caught my eye I was not going to be out money. Since I could easily sell another one for what I had in it to pay for the new toy. Now a dozen or so new laws later criminals seem to have no problems getting what they want while people like me get hosed

Yikes! I'm sort of a dinosaur with poor hearing. Phone calls are okay, but a bit painful. Texting? What the heck is texting? My landline doesn't accept texts, and my cell phone is rarely turned on.

Seriously, I prefer the private messages through the forum and have done most of my business through that. I have spoken to a couple of people on the phone and can understand some people wanting to talk to me before selling or buying. Back in the wild west days when you could meet in someone's driveway to buy a gun, I was also more comfortable talking to someone on the phone to reduce the chances of being stood up. With the availability of "burner" phones, I'm not sure a text gives me any more comfort than a private message.

Note to @Xmark1 If it was something I really wanted to buy or sell badly, I would probably go along with a request to text rather than have you abort the transaction.

I prefer texting ...because of my poor hearing...and phone calls are as you said painful.

And while I dislike cell phones for many reasons....
One advantage it has is the ability to text or send a written message.
Granted if all one has is a land line...this can't happen.

Had a few students / families get one that way.
However...no matter if they are given away....they still ain't that common in most households.

But the hassle of phone calls and goofy people showing up with crazy pay schemes and insults is a frustrating waste of time.

Due to how the voters here have decided they want to live I stopped riding. Been trying to talk Wife into unloading our bikes. She had not ridden hers in a good while either. If I can talk her into just getting rid of them this is what I will do. Find a shop who will take them and sell them. Bad enough with a car, I sure as hell don't want to deal with people coming to look at bikes. Since no way in hell would I let someone hop on the damn thing to test drive it.
