I don't usually sit and watch video's this long. Though I do like reading about the World Wars. As I was watching this from the beginning for a few minutes, for some reason I stayed with it. After awhile I got to thinking abut the crap-show that's going on in too many of our large cities in America. I'm not really THAT much of a RAH-RAH Patriotic American, but I do have a great respect for the people responsible for building this great system that makes our country what it is. Or was, up until some years past. Some times feel like I should have been born 50 years ealier.

I never knew we had a WWII prison camp in Oregon.

This is a greta example of what made America Great.

Thanks for that!

Minimal remains of Camp White today.

However, a portion of the former US Army Camp White shooting range is used as the Jackson County Sports Complex public shooting range. Day use fee & annual.

High Power shoots (600 yards) on Tuesdays, weather permitting. Other distances /bays open year round (day use/membership).

This outdoor county range on a portion of the former Camp White site is jointly managed by our indoor club, and another. So there are apparently a bunch of scheduled various outdoors competitions.

Oh, so cool.

Looks like there is nothing left of "Camp White". But there looks to be a bunch of federal Gov. stuff there. "Young Marines" and V.A. buildings.

I had never heard of this either. Very interesting. Thanks for posting that.

The contrast between then and now. Germany at the time and America at the time.

Maybe part of my feeling about this come from the book I'm currently reading....

Truly amazing story told by the man himself. A boy that grew up in Dallas Texas and went to Canada to join the British Air Force. I am in a place where he's been shot down over France, and hasn't been captured by the Germans yet.

@Mikej sent me down the rabbit's burrow. 🕳️🐇

Grokipedia gathered quite a bit of information on Camp White. I'm a bit surprised, considering that Grokipedia was launched on October 27, 2025.

Here is a link to an Archive.org query, if any are interested. You can filter for the type of media, dates, etc...

And from that search, a link to a 30 minute South Oregon Public Television documentary on Camp White.
Direct Link to the Video

What really stands out to me in things like this is the racism that went on. We had to build such and enormous fighting machine in a short time I'd have though that men are men. Who gives a crap about their skin color. I could somewhat understand the sentiment (still wrong) in the past with someone different moving into you neighborhood. But not in the building of a "Military Machine". There are good people and bad people in all populations. It doesn't make sense to me to see that attitude in this situation.

I could kind of get my head around it then. LOT of ignorance to go around. What baffles me now is how much worse it is right now. I deal with the public daily and it is amazing the race hate I see from so many who don't look like me. People who live better than 99% of the rest of the world and tell me how much they hate me due to me being "white". In the information age we are in now I would think this would be far different but it just keeps getting worse. :(

Sadly, and I'm sure you know this, your feelings are not unique. The cultural changes
I've seen in my 85 years are not understandable to me. I'm sad for my children and
grandchildren.

Off the top of my head, I figure in 1940 the US had roughly a 20% ethnic minority population.

A quick Google search found this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethni...nited_States_Armed_Forces_during_World_War_II

With the first line as: "Ethnic minorities in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II comprised about 13% of all military service members..."

13% in US armed forces, vs a roughly 20% ethnic minority population track right about where it should. Figuring in those who couldn't qualify (young, old etc).
