well to clarify I didn't intend this thread subject to be specific to bullets starting fires. I actually think you have some good points about the low actuality of it happening, after all there is only one study I've found on the topic and it has no counter study.... could the study be wrong? I don't have the time or scientific intelligence to publish my own study to counter it.

Thats why I also inquired about the ethical part of it. In the absence of scientific fact or law the ethical choice is what's followed.

ultimately though, I don't have a problem doing things to mitigate a potential problem. Its no big deal to me to not shoot at stumps and dead trees, or use steel core ammo which isn't that accurate anyways. Doing these things isn't going to lead to uncalled for regulations, but starting forest fires will.
