The upside down month and year stamp is marked by Springfield "SA-1-42" (I think that's what it reads) and the other markings look to be British Proof Markings with a crown image on the barrel followed with 18 Tons. The rifle dates to late 1941 to early 1942 so I expect the barrel is probably original. Thanks for the comment. What are the markings that make you think it was loaned to the British?

Thanks for the info. I will remove the stock tomorrow and post those pictures to this thread. Could you possibly remove the stock and take photos of the OPROD, Trigger assembly, bolt and sides of the receiver? Make sure to have a clear view of the manufacture numbers.
Is the rifle import marked anywhere on the barrel?
@Nibbs and others know more than I do I am sure, but other pictures might help with the sale.

Agreed! The trigger housing, bolt and oprod may very well be correct. They all date in range of this serial # to possibly be original parts to this rifle.Looking good...
-3 Uncut Op Rod w/ early riveted spring guide fork are Good signs of not being messed with, other than the stock being redone.
Does it still have the single slot gas cyl lock screw?
I will check.Looking good...
