We will be performing a software update the morning of Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, requiring us to close the site beginning at 5:00AM PST.

This is a rather large update, with an estimated downtime of 5 hours.

Update Notes
  1. While the changes to the look of the site are fairly small, this is a huge update. We're going to re-open the site as soon as possible, but we'll be working behind the scenes for several days after, so you may continue to see changes here and there. If you run into an issue, please open a ticket and we'll get to it ASAP.
  2. The hover menu drop-down menu function has been removed, as the software is no longer supported. You will now click/tap the down arrow to the right of each menu to trigger the drop-down.
  3. Most bugs related to read/unread alerts should be resolved. Part of this fix required resetting alert options for all members to always mark alerts read when viewing the alert menu. This behavior can be changed in your account preferences by selecting the "Do not automatically mark alerts read" option, which will leave alerts in the alert menu until you view the content or mark them read. Note: The mobile pop-up menu (triggered from the bottom button bar on mobile devices) will not be mark alerts read automatically. This will be fixed in a future update.
  4. This update required the rebuilding of our search indexes. Search features may be unavailable or incomplete until the search index rebuilds are complete (approximately 2-3 hours after we reopen the site).

And we're back! Thank you for your patience :)

Regarding Item #3:
Most bugs related to read/unread alerts should be resolved. Part of this fix required resetting alert options for all members to always mark alerts read when viewing the alert menu. This behavior can be changed in your account preferences by selecting the "Do not automatically mark alerts read" option, which will leave alerts in the alert menu until you view the content or mark them read.

I selected the "Do not automatically mark alerts read" option, then I closed and restarted NWFA, but I still have no alerts. I was under the impression that I would get back all of my unread alerts if I did the above. Is there a way to regain the alerts (~45 of 'em) that now seem to have disappeared?

Note: I was out for a week near the end of August installing my daughter in an out-of-state university. While still out of state, I caught the latest variant of The Plague. So getting over The Plague took a couple more weeks, and I'm just starting to work through my alerts. So, if you were wondering why I have so many alerts, then that's why. I just haven't had the time to get through them.

I'm not positive, but my guess is they were marked read during the update. That option won't affect alerts retroactively, but the alerts should be listed on your alerts page with the All Alerts filter button selected at the top.

One of the features we added is the ability to select alerts in-line on that page and then mark them read/unread at the bottom, so if they did get marked read, you should be able to easily mark them unread :s0155:

Correct, looks like they are all marked as read, but I have 5 pages worth of them, which go all the way back to when I left for the East Coast on August 20. So, looks like they're all here, but just marked as read. It will be easy to go back and check them as unread, so I'm all good now. Thanks for the instructions, and the update, Joe!

WTH, I have to go somewhere else to see new alerts rather than just hovering over the "alerts" at the top huh? When I have multiple alerts how am I supposed to know which ones are new and which ones have been read?

It's in the same spot, but the hover function is gone, so you have to click/tap Alerts to see the drop-down. New alerts should have a yellow background and a line separating them from existing alerts.

With the preferences reset, all alerts are marked read as soon as you open that menu, which can be confusing. If you want the alerts to stay there until you either mark them read or view the content, you'll want to change the option to "Do not automatically mark alerts read" in your Account Preferences.

@Mikej after playing with it, I can see this is going to need additional work to clarify what's what with the different alerts statuses (new, existing, read, unread, etc). Adding it to my list to update sooner rather than later :s0155:

Joe, up front, my thanks for the amazing home, and the well kept software environment. Your efforts are welcome and genuinely appreciated. You rock......
