Here's the deal. Just picked up a Winchester 94 30-30 this year. Ran out of time getting it sighted in tonight and I don't know if I'll be able to make it back out before next saturday. Using 170 grain Remington Core Lokt the best I was able to get it was 3 inches high at 50 yards. Can someone tell me what this will do at 100 and 150 yards? I don't plan on shooting over 150 yards with it and even that is a stretch for me with the peep sight on it.
I've tried finding info on-line but most of it is about sighting it in at 100 yards. The rise and fall of the bullet puts me a little on edge as I've always ever hunted with "flatter" shooting guns such as the 30-06, .308, .270 etc

170's drop pretty well... but you should be good out to 100yds... 150 might be a bit more drop than what you'd like.

Remington.com and some ballistics programs should tell you what you should expect.

so this goes caliber weight...........BC...100yds.....200yds..MRT......MPBR

Just a guess, but I would bet 3" high at 50 yards would put you real close a 100.Within an inch.
Looks like the 30-30 flies a little flatter than I expected.

I ran the numbers with Sierra's BC of .248 and Remington's velocity of 2200fps. I jiggled the sight in distance until it said 3in high at 50yds. Here is what the calculator had to say:50yds 3.1in, 100yds 5.5in, 150yds 5.5in, 200yds 2.7in, 225yds ZERO, 250yds -3.5in, 300yds -13.7in. Here is the link to play with. These are perfect world numbers, it should get you in the ball park.
