Scope rings ?

I bought a scope and a set of leupold prw rings. The guy at the counter said that there is a coat of some sort on the rings so it won't scratch the scope, anyway the rings indeed scratched my new scope, and now I have to live with that ugly scratch errr. My question is did I do something wrong? Is there a certain way of snapping on the top half of the rings without scratching the scope?

I am not 100% familiar with the PRW rings, but you shouldn't have to snap them on. Stupid question but did you match your tube length to ring diameter?

Match tube length to ring diameter? They're both 30mm... I thought it was weird too but they fit, just gotta get past that snap. I would take a pic but I don't wanna pull off the top half again and risk another scratch lol.

Is the scope of good quality? Cheap scopes have cheap finishes.
