Had (2) two GENERAC factory reps onsite. Both assured me the 24 KW propane unit was more than adequate. At install, discover the units up to 26 kw have a 100 amp circuit breaker installed into the top of the unit. Came with 200 amp transfer switch. All this means I have go to my panel and turn off the equivalent off 100 amp. Also, power production is higher on propane than natural gas. $14,000 for whole house, and don't have what I wanted.

My experience was opposite. I bought the 9K generator for the house in case of extended power loss and I was so impressed with it, I got their 3.2K for the RV. Both electric start. Big one is tri-fuel and little one is dual fuel. Both start and run every time. Told my buddy about them and he's got the same setup and happy with them. I guess it's luck of the draw.

Even in reading the reviews, some folks had a glowing experience, while others, not so much.

I didn't read all, but skimmed and the point of first determining what you power requirement are is a completely valid and critical first step..

Using the listed ratings for the equipment you want to power can give you a very general idea, but generic ratings are typically very inaccurate and/or deceiving.

A "killawatt" is a great little tool that isn't very expensive and one I often recommend. It allows you to accurately determine your actual power requirements.
