I have heard mixed things on SBR builds with semi autos post 2024 legislation in WA.

considering two SBR builds if time and budget allow, but have also heard that WA, you can't do a semi auto SBR conversion now?

Anyone know?

with recent changes to the NFA and recent discontinuation of certain firearms platforms, I am considering finally SBRing one of my rifles.

Is the rifle already a Washington-defined "assault weapon" that was possessed in Washington before the state ban took effect?

These laws are BS, but to discuss what they say, more detail is needed. That being said, discussing some things over the internet might not be prudent.

Yes. it was purchased about 4 months before the ban went into effect.

This question came up in California years ago. The State DoJ tried to prohibit anyone with a registered "assault weapon" from modifying it. Some 2A groups challenged it, because the law only created one tier of "assault weapon." Therefore under common sense, there would be no way that changing a gun from one "assault weapon" to another configuration of "assault weapon" would be creating or manufacturing a prohibited assault weapon. It can't be "assaultier." However, Washington courts have not ruled on that question, and nobody can assume that the ruling would be consistent with common sense. Another practical challenge is whether the ATF would approve the stamp. Even if not correct; it would take a lot of effort to force a big federal agency to change its mind.

Everyone has to make their own decisions about whether and how to challenge or ignore these "laws."
