I have a Custom Savage .243 that will be a range rifle for me. It's has a heavy ~5.75lb. trigger pull. I'd like something closer to 2.5 - 3.5 lbs.
Doing some research on the rifle I believe it's a Model 110 Medium Action Flat Back which would have been made between 1959 - 1988.
I have not taken the action out of the stock yet. My experience with adjusting triggers is minimal. I've never replaced one. I have only adjusted one Ruger Marksman trigger (not very successfully) and have done an M*CARBO spring kit on a Savage Axis trigger (successfully and easy).

I don't know yet if the graphic below is a representation of the trigger I have. Any tips on what I might expect working on a trigger of this vintage? Replacement? Is this something that I can do? Should I take to to a gunsmith? Would appreciate any feedback before I take the action out of the stock.

Thanks

I replaced a spring in my Savage Axis (Gen 1, no accu-trigger). It made a pretty decent improvement in weight of trigger pull (from feel). If you have a well stocked hardware store nearby, it should be cheap to do. Or just spend the extra and buy the Mcarbo spring.

Not sure how similar the axis trigger is to yours, but I am not mechanically inclined and I was able to get it done.

Yes! The M*CARBO kit for the 1st Gen Axis is awesome, easy, and makes a big improvement. Pretty sure this is going to be a different trigger. I'm waiting to remove the action until I have a gunsmith lined up that can take a look at it in the case that I can't do it myself. Curious if anyone has done a trigger adjustment or replacement on a Savage of this vintage and can pass on any tips.

I'm a southpaw & have been working on the savage 110 series for a while now.
I find them easy to work on, but I love to tinker with stuff.
The factory trigger is tunable, to a point....
Spitpatch is right on with the Timney suggestion.

I put a "special" trigger spring in one of my Rugers, I know, different gun, but similar situation. The small price and little time to install the spring was about all it was worth. I'll not waste my time on another.
I ended up putting a Timney in that gun, then one in my wife's rifle.
If the proper trigger adjustment doesn't get "there" for you, a Timney, or something similar is the ticket.
