I'm considering getting a Savage MK2 .22LR. The ones I have looked at have two grooves cut into the top of the receiver. Is there some sort of scope mount that fits into them? Or do they need to be drilled and tapped?
I think they will either come drilled and tapped for a base or they come with standard Weaver style bases. Mine came with weaver bases - which look like two grooves.
Google weaver scope base and see if that is what you are referring to.
there is a chance, depending on the age of the rifle, that the rings you want are referred to as "tip-off rings". Kind of a standard for 22 rifles. they are like weaver rings, but smaller. standard weaver rifle rings may not fit.
