There are at least two rock pits so I'm not sure which one people are referring to. One is to the left of the road splt then down 1/4 mile or so. The other is when you continue straight at the split then turn right.
The first rock pit is where we cleaned. I've seen the upper to the right also. And just before the upper was another gravel area with a semi long, narrow lane that my be a 100?

Depending on where shooting from, the pit on the left might get close to 100 yards, at least 80. I set up at 50 yards and there was room behind me it would be safe to shoot from and on the other side of my target. However it is a bit uphill but still plenty of backstop.

The only problem for me is my target stand setup and uneven ground. There are better spots if available. Also, I haven't been to that pit lately. The last time the pit was massively larger. It used to support several different shooting parties. Now just one. Unless things have changed.

Might work with two if all are good neighbors and relatively sober, but yes the ground at further distances is def sloped.

I bought a cell phone signal booster and it helps. WeBoost brand. If your phone has a little signal, it will boost it. If there's no signal, there will still be no signal. I think it was around $350 for the whole car one, or you can buy a 1 phone only booster. Mine does work real nice.

Thanks for your reviews on Salmonberry and Tahuya. Good to hear an honest evaluation.

Bill

Here is a cell coverage map for that area.
Tmobile: pink
AT&T: blue
Verizon: red

You can toggle each one on/off to focus only on your carrier.

Ive actually used this out there on my caltopo phone app to find service when I needed a cell signal once and it worked.

We suck. From yesterday. Left with some extra trash but didn't have the ability to take more. Honestly, I'm surprised the state forests don't just ban shooting. Feel free to shame your litterbug firearms owning friends. And what is it with shotguners?! The shells are brightly colored, plastic and easy to pick up!!!

Then folks will b!tch and complain when the gate gets closed and locked. We need to hold each other accountable for these messes, there is simply no excuse. Simply irresponsible adults…. Disgusting and saddening…

Drives me nuts...I knew littering was selfish and awful from my folks by the time I was three and that was only reinforced in the scouts throughout elementary and middle school. I don't get it. I feel bad if my dog craps and I've forgotten a bag to pick it up.

Honestly, I wind up here almost as often as Wolf Creek because the lanes at Wolf creek are full so often. It's a decent overflow valve for that spot. I noticed that someone (the state? a creative shooter who noticed a good spot with small backstop...?) set up a new shorter lane with small backstop. It's closer to the highway with what looks like about a 25 to 40 yard lane. Maybe good for pistols and short range 22lr or PCC shooting? Maybe it was there before but was closed or overgrown.

If its the spot thats closest to the hwy 26 entrance thats user/shooter developed. I cant remember but seem to recall thats actually an old road entrance thats closed off but if so Id advoid paths like that especially in the hunting and mushroom seasons.

The usual spot in your photos is most often always trashed, Ive rarely shot there for that reason (plus that big puddle is huge in winter). Its otherwise a great spot, I wish just once Id read evidence here of someone getting a ticket for littering out there.

So sort sketchy out there today….driving up the hill past the main and second pit I turned the corner and a guy up the road and on the right (the uphill, west side) is pointing an AR in my general direction but upward. Turns out they were shooting up a hill and off to their left up a an old road but standing right next to the road. Please don't do this! If not outright dangerous at least high potential.

The people leaving trash and tearing it up are probably not in these forums. I've had enough dangerous encounters up there that if there are others shooting I just leave the vicinity.

Even when it appears shooters are being responsible, it's a little unnerving when you pass half a dozen spots that are packed ... Driving further in, never know if the berms and trees will be enough 😁
