I read a test like this in a magazine article from the late 50's.

If one's close enough there can be some shrapnel damage but rounds in a fire aren't going to "shoot up a neighborhood".

If ammo was that dangerous in a fire we'd see hundreds of dead hunters every year. Every hunting camp has it's moron that tosses a live round or two in the campfire for excitement.
