when buing mags for this do they have to be for the full size ?

Yes they are dif from the mags that come with the SW 22 Compact.

I learned that just recently when a buddy tried to use my full size pistol 12 rd mag in his 22 Compact... wouldn't go in lol.

There are some high quality 14 and 15 rd mags available for this full size model
