I was really worried at first, but it was so easy to push out with the cleaning rod. It was stuck right near or at the chamber.....

Tell me about the Bentz chamber, because I think thats what my Green Mountain barrel has. What is a Bentz chamber?

(tesing the "quiet" loads next up...)
"The .22 Bentz chamber is a .22LR chamber that was developed specifically for auto loading .22 rifles. The .22 MATCH chamber is too tight for autoloading rifles so the Bentz chamber falls between the SAAMI MATCH and SAAMI SPORTING chambers for .22 LR.

What ammo can I use?
We do not recommend using "Hyper" velocity .22LR (ie: CCI Stinger, etc.), this increased chamber pressure can cause premature wear or damage to your receiver or internal parts. We don't advise going above 1400 fps.

Can I shoot Sub-sonic ammo?
Yes, sub-sonic ammo can be fired through your barrel, but the lower chamber pressure may not fully cycle your action which can cause jamming"

add comment from me:
with a Tony Kidd -10% spring, one can shoot sub sonic through your 10/22 with a Bentz chamber
been shooting Aquilia sub sonic through my Bentz chamber since day one, no failure

It reminds me of what the Wylde chamber does for the 223/556.... good to know. I knew not to fire the stingers in there, but Green Mt never included any mention of velocity in standard 22lr.

Without a suppressor, the CCI "Quiet" will be too loud for use in sensitive areas.... but is definitely quiet. The target version is has more pop to it, and penetrated the bullet trap 11 layers. The varmint (fragmenting version) says its 125fps slower, barely noticeably quieter pop, and only penetrated about 5 layers. (for reference, the Aquila Colibri only penetrated 3 layers. The layers are simply folded paper sacks to fit the trap, each sack is a layer... the trap works). Aquila subsonic ammo is about as loud as the CCI "quiet".

The Colossic low profile bolt lock is very nice and easy to use. Im glad I got the low profile version as it really does not protrude much more than the Ruger charging handle. I can clearly see now this has an advantage for use with a suppressor to eliminate bolt noise... the Kidd Bolt Buffer is super quiet too. without a can the above tested rounds sounded the same with or without the bolt locked. This makes me think of getting my barrel threaded.....

this first thing I learned about a Bentz chamber is it's so tight that once you chamber a round, your not pulling it back out with the bolt
I first thought my barrel was defective, so I called the maker
they told me that was normal
once it's in there, you have to shoot it
but a barrel with a Bentz chamber is beyond accurate with Eley ammo
some shooters on the rimfire forum have documented .360 groups with 10 rnds

I have not experienced that with my Green Mt barrel. But its older now, I dont keep track of round count but I purchased it in 2015. I dont shoot the rifle much though.

I live in an area with no buildings or baffles around my shooting range
the sound of a .22 just dissipates into the pasture
the livestock don't even look up
but I understand about a "sensitive" area
but my son tells me the sound doesn't penetrate into our house, if I shoot off the porch

I just received 5 boxes of new production Colibri 2 days ago
just fired 10 rnds through my Remington at Coors cans at 25 yrds off my porch
I wonder if its because mine are older inventory, IIRC buying them last year on a whim to see how quiet they are in a pistol. If they dont have a powder charge and only a primer charge in the rim, I wonder if the primer material ages. The rounds produced a really odd foul smell for what thats worth.

what ammo?
Everything (thats not a stinger)

The rifle is used just for the fun of plinking, rabbit and grouse hunting. Its barely used, I added a bull barrel and a Boyds stock in 2015 just for the fun of it but otherwise a stock 10/22. In my ammo box I currently have CCIs, Federal, Remington Thunderbolt, Remington Golden bullet, Aquilia ammo.

well, I had to stick my nose at the end of the barrel, but there was an odor on these new ones

how do Thunderbolts shoot out of you barrel?
I only shoot thunderbolts out of my stock Ruger 10/22 barrel
and thunderbolt SUCK out of a Ruger Mk 1 pistol

My guess is that the Colibris primer compound is inconsistent, I should have chronod them while I was at it. Im tempted to continue testing them but the squib bothers me yet it was sooo easy to remove. I was very worried I was going to have to go to a smith for that. Those bullets are very tiny though, they wont feed from the magazine and are a pain to load by hand in the 10/22. But they are quiet enough...

Your in luck because I keep a computer folder for each gun and the last time I shot thunderbolts I took a pic of the target. This was at 25yds from a benchrest with a bipod, the orange dots are 1in diameter, (velocity is just whats on the box and not over a chrono). I probably kept this photo because it shows I tested several brands of ammo.

....ok, maybe temporarily not in luck because the website wont let me upload pics right now but the thunderbolts held a half inch group at 25yds. I will try to upload the pic again.

still have a 500 ( minus 14 rnds) rnd block of Thunderbolts
they shot so poorly out of my Mk 1 bull barrel, I just didn't use them again
will try them in the Bentz chamber
I have found with the cheap ammo its inconsistent by lot. I had a 500 brick of Remington Golden bullet that also shot 1/2" groups, a couple weekends shooting steel with a friend quickly went thru that box so I was excited to buy another and it shot horribly. Currently the rifle is zeroed on CCI ammo, 36gn, but I didnt write down what type :/
I need to take this with me to the range next time and check its zero, I enjoy shooting it but ever since I got into handloading its been neglected for the bigger guns.

I was working in Spokane years ago and went to the Cabela's on the Idaho side of the border just to pass some time
found a Vortex Gen 1 4x12 Viper 1" scope on sale (discontinued model)
I like the Viper glass in the Vortex line
couldn't pass up the price, but never used it
just mounted it on the Tony Kidd 10/22 yesterday
wish to see how a 10/22 Match rifle shoots with Eley ammo with a 12X scope

I have been wanting to see how this Green Mt barrel does with some Eley ammo, its been on my radar to test for a while.
Though I just spent my weeks allowance on this Colossic and some "quiet" ammo... its all fun to learn though.

when I was working for a living, I shot my 7.62x54R, , .308 and 5.56 more
now that I'm retired on a fixed S.S.A. income, .22LR is more in my price range

Yes, but Im jealous of your opportunity to shoot 22 from your back deck. I can only wish...

OK, years ago I got a new Mosin M38
so my wife was gone and I decided to shoot it off my deck, just to test it
now a Mosin M38 has a 20" bbl, shooting 7.62x54R,
let off the first round and all the windows in the house rattled
BUT - unknown to me, my wife had just pulled in on the other side of the house
just got out of her car with 2 Starbucks Grande Moca in her hand
Mosin went off, 2 Grande Moca went up in the air and covered her in mildly hot coffee
she came stomping around the house, found me with the Mosin and said things that only a Texas raised woman could think of
didn't get any for 2 weeks
