OK, years ago I got a new Mosin M38
so my wife was gone and I decided to shoot it off my deck, just to test it
now a Mosin M38 has a 20" bbl, shooting 7.62x54R,
let off the first round and all the windows in the house rattled
BUT - unknown to me, my wife had just pulled in on the other side of the house
just got out of her car with 2 Starbucks Grande Moca in her hand
Mosin went off, 2 Grande Moca went up in the air and covered her in mildly hot coffee
she came stomping around the house, found me with the Mosin and said things that only a Texas raised woman could think of
didn't get any for 2 weeks
Now thats a fun story :p Have to admit I wondered how much trouble I was going to get into this week should things go louder than expected...

I just received 5 boxes of new production Colibri 2 days ago
just fired 10 rnds through my Remington at Coors cans at 25 yrds off my porch
the "ting" when it hit the beer can was the only noise
Was there a hole or did it only dent the can? :)

already burned through 2 boxes of Colibri .22
Midway has it in stock so I ordered 10 more boxes
not going to try it in my 10/22s, but have 2 bolt rifles
for paper or beer cans, it just a kick
now I have a pile of empty .22 cases to clean up just off the porch
the Remington Nylon 10 sat in the closet for 27 years because my old eyes couldn't see the iron sights
but with these new eyes, I can again enjoy this old classic

It reminds me of what the Wylde chamber does for the 223/556.... good to know. I knew not to fire the stingers in there, but Green Mt never included any mention of velocity in standard 22lr.

Without a suppressor, the CCI "Quiet" will be too loud for use in sensitive areas.... but is definitely quiet. The target version is has more pop to it, and penetrated the bullet trap 11 layers. The varmint (fragmenting version) says its 125fps slower, barely noticeably quieter pop, and only penetrated about 5 layers. (for reference, the Aquila Colibri only penetrated 3 layers. The layers are simply folded paper sacks to fit the trap, each sack is a layer... the trap works). Aquila subsonic ammo is about as loud as the CCI "quiet".

The Colossic low profile bolt lock is very nice and easy to use. Im glad I got the low profile version as it really does not protrude much more than the Ruger charging handle. I can clearly see now this has an advantage for use with a suppressor to eliminate bolt noise... the Kidd Bolt Buffer is super quiet too. without a can the above tested rounds sounded the same with or without the bolt locked. This makes me think of getting my barrel threaded.....
I would look into a bolt action .22 with a threaded barrel, like a Savage
also a standard velocity .22 maxes out it's velocity in a 16" bbl
our old Remignton has a 19.5" bbl, most standard velocity .22LR is sub sonic by the time it exits this old bolt gun
on the other hand dedicated .22 sub sonic may not work in bbl over 24"
I have .22 with 16" bbl, 18" bbl, and 19.5 bbl
the 10/22 I build for CCI mini mags has an 18" bbl with a Kidd heavy spring and buffer and a home sanded radius bolt - the rounds are still supersonic

for some reason, a lot of gunfire being heard on my road today, probably some family having a weekend party and they started early

So - I thought I'd show them

but all that is heard up here is the "tink" "tink" of Colibri hitting beer cans in my front yard
the geese don't even flinch!!
now, I do like my 10/22s, but Colibri through our Remington Bolt is a whole different level of shooting pleasure

A well placed Eley is all anyone needs! ;):s0090:

I live in an area with no buildings or baffles around my shooting range
the sound of a .22 just dissipates into the pasture
the livestock don't even look up
but I understand about a "sensitive" area
but my son tells me the sound doesn't penetrate into his house, if I shoot off his porch
Fixed it for ya……:p:D

now this is almost embarrassing
I was sighting a new red dot on this 10/22 - at 25 yrd
after first shot, I saw I was way off to the left - with my binoculars
next shot and I'm at the bottom of the target - didn't adjust just fired another round and now I'm up left again
walked down to look at my target and found I had NO hits on the paper, but this big black ant was walking all over the target
brushed the ant off and moved in to 10 yrds just get on the paper
5 more shots and I'm ZERO
