I was at bi-mart today looking at guns. That turned out to be a mistake, I bought a rock island 1911 gi standard A1 fs 45 auto.
For 389.00 I figured it needed a better home than bimart.it was free , it was bought from casino winnings. I found a pic of same pistol on net, mine is in background check jail.

RIA's are actually some very solid guns these days! They've come along ways over the last 10yrs. One can dress them up quite nicely.:s0155:

Good score!

I'll have to keep an eye out at my local Bi Mart as well - I am looking for a 'Rock' model in 9MM!
I read a lot of reviews on these and most were pretty good. I guess we will find out

The Rock Island line is a mighty good line.

The standard seems to be a serviceable firearm. They also have models that are a bit shinier if one wants (I really like a wide beavertail grip safety and oversize controls), and the price point is still excellent.

I've long been interested in their 9mm/.22TCM model.

The Rock Island 1911s I have been ordering the last few months have felt tighter than anything shy of Ed Browns. For around $500 you can have a decent finish, skeletonized trigger and hammer, a 2.5# trigger and ambi safety. Just don't tell me they are made by prisoners of an oppressive regime bent on destroying American values, because turning my back on these will be hard.

Great 'classical' reference!

Yea I have looked at a couple in SW and since I have a $30 off coupon (and they will give me an addl. - 1% Vet discount) this brings a 'Rock' to like $399.

I've never had a 1911 with all the typical 'add ons' so I'll do it one time anyway!

This is for sure!

I have looked at two so far and was impressed by the fit and excellent triggers.

'Decent' is the best way to describe the finish and it's obvious they had to cut the corners somewhere to get to the price point but its not bad for what it is.

RIA seems to be a good way to go for a budget 1911.

Hmmm, I'm thinking one in 9mm might not be a bad investment. ;)

A friend and I shot my RIA 10mm fs ultra looking to trade to get my CZ back in the stable.
It was fun, controllable, not bad at all. Sights were off but trigger was nice very predictable.
10mm Magtech 180gr wasn't that much more than a 40sw
