I very much appreciated Secretary Richardson, and I will miss his existence in Oregon politics.

The Governor is required to appoint a Republican to replace him. It's going
to be interesting to see who she picks.

Remember when:

After the more recent mass shooting at an elementary school in Newton, Conn., Richardson said schools should train and arm staff. He went on to say that if he had been a teacher at the school and allowed to carry a gun, "most of the murdered children would still be alive and the gunman would still be dead, and not by suicide."

Amen to that, too bad he wasn't elected as Governor.

Ironic since she was a replacement who later ran for the position.

Dennis was an honorable man who would not participate in the political mudslinging that is so much politics today. He was articulate, and political gain was secondary to his service to the people.

I met him some years ago when he was campaigning for SOS. Had an extended conversation with him at a park in Hillsboro about PERS. Explained the business mans point of view to him and worked on his campaign for Governor, and recruited other business people to as well.

I had several phone conversations with him after he lost the Governor's race and encouraged him to run for SOS. He called me to thank me for working on his campaign and it was a sincere call. I would e mail him on various issues, and he always got back to me in less than a day. Just a great man, unpretentious, and looking for the good in everybody and what could be done for the betterment of the state in a bipartisian manner.

Oregon lost its last conservative voice in state government. He was a refreshing voice of reason and conservative thought in a sh*thole of liberal tax and spenders. I know Kate has to appoint a Republican, but I am pretty sure she had some ringer change parties months ago with the silver spoon promise of the job. Hell, maybe she will appoint Knute Buehler, he is a RINO anyway so he would fit good with her agenda, and the stuff Dennis was working on will just get swept away.
