David Ogden Stiers who play Major Charles Emerson Winchester III died of bladder cancer at the age of 75 in Newport Oregon. I remember him as the dad from the movie Better off Dead, the scientist (on Star Trek The Next Generation)who has at a certain age in his culture must die and the mayor in Doc Hollywood.

This is sad to me. I was in the Army when the TV show MASH first aired, and we kind've fantasized the TV show emulated my Army unit. The characters of the show were our hero's.


Many people don't know, but he was the conductor for the Newport (Or.) Symphony, a position that seemed to give him more pride than his position on MASH.

May he Rest in Peace.
